Science fiction is having a major moment in the 2020s, with fantastic movies and TV shows appearing on both in theaters and at home. Recent years have seen huge audiences for films like Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Everything Everywhere All at Once, and Dune, many of which are now available to stream. However, Hulu is about to remove one of its best, but lesser-known, sci-fi movies.

Okay, fellow movie lovers, heads up! If you’ve been meaning to check out Next Exit on Hulu, you’ve got limited time. This cool indie film, which was director Mali Elfman’s first time at the helm, is leaving the platform on March 1st. It’s a really interesting sci-fi comedy-drama set in the near future where they’ve proven there’s life after death. A scientist is studying what happens next, and the story follows two very different people – a cynical woman named Rose, played by Katie Parker, and a more upbeat guy, Teddy, played by Rahul Kohli – as they road trip across the country from New York to San Francisco to participate in this afterlife study. Rose McIver, Karen Gillan, Tongayi Chirisa, and Diva Zappa are also in it – it originally premiered at the Tribeca Festival, so it’s got that indie vibe. Definitely worth a watch if you’re looking for something a little different!

Next Exit Is a Darkly Comedic, Heartfelt Sci-Fi Road Trip Movie

If you’re looking for a fast-paced, action-packed sci-fi movie, Next Exit might not be for you. It’s less about thrilling adventures and special effects, and more of a quiet, character-focused drama. Although the film begins with a science-based idea about life after death, it uses this as a backdrop to explore the feelings and experiences of its two main characters, prioritizing emotional impact over grand spectacle.

As a movie lover, I found Next Exit to be a really moving film. It’s not about big action, but those quiet, thoughtful moments that stick with you. It follows two strangers who are both heading towards the end of their lives, and along the way, they unexpectedly connect. It really makes you think about why they’re making that choice and forces them to deal with their pasts. It’s heartbreaking, but also surprisingly hopeful, and manages to balance really dark humor with genuine emotion. The movie lives and dies on the relationship between the two main actors, and they absolutely nail it – their chemistry feels so real and their performances are incredibly authentic. While regular moviegoers seemed a bit divided (it has a 59% score on Rotten Tomatoes), critics really loved it, giving it an 80% ‘Certified Fresh’ rating, and I have to agree with them.

Where to Stream Next Exit After It Leaves Hulu?

If you’re a Hulu subscriber, it’s best to watch Next Exit soon! After March 1st, it won’t be available on the platform, and finding it will be harder. You can rent or buy it online, and it might eventually appear on another streaming service, but that’s not confirmed yet as other platforms haven’t announced their March schedules.
