Zack Snyder and the Rick and Morty movie

Since its debut in 2013, Rick and Morty has become incredibly popular, winning two Emmy Awards and becoming the most-watched comedy on cable television in recent seasons. Many fans feel a movie adaptation is long overdue.

Rick and Morty, created by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, centers around the interdimensional escapades of eccentric inventor Rick Sanchez and his teenage grandson, Morty. Though Roiland, who originally voiced both main characters, is no longer with the show, it continues to be a success, currently airing its ninth season with renewals confirmed through season twelve. Jacob Hair, a director on the series since 2019, will also direct the upcoming Rick and Morty movie, a project Harmon stated they committed to without seeking other options.

Zack Snyder loves Rick and Morty – he even appeared as himself in season eight! So, it was natural for him to offer his help in getting a feature film made. As Justin Harmon explained, Snyder was a huge fan and simply asked if he could use his influence to kickstart the movie.

The movie will be distributed by Warner Bros., and according to Justin Roiland, the idea is to create a longer, higher-budget version of a typical Rick and Morty episode – around 90 minutes long. He wants to avoid making it feel like a movie just by adding serious drama, and instead focus on delivering an incredibly awesome Rick and Morty adventure.

Plot details have not yet been publicly shared for the film that is in early development.
