Man of Steel 2 was almost a reality during Zack Snyder’s DC era.
In an interview on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Zack Snyder revealed that plans for a Man of Steel 2 did exist before Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was in development. He explained that he envisioned a sequel which would establish a timeline allowing for a standalone Superman versus Brainiac film.
Ultimately, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice moved forward, introducing Ben Affleck as Batman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman into the DC movie universe. Although a sequel to Man of Steel never materialized, the ideas originally intended for that film—specifically involving Brainiac—are now being explored in a separate project called Man of Tomorrow.
The upcoming 2027 Superman movie, starring David Corenswet, will introduce the villain Brainiac to the big screen as part of James Gunn’s DC Universe. Actor Lars Eidinger will play Brainiac, forcing Superman (Clark Kent) and Lex Luthor (played by Nicholas Hoult) to work together against this powerful enemy.
After Henry Cavill reprised his role as Superman in Black Adam, Warner Bros. briefly explored making a sequel to Man of Steel. However, those plans were canceled when James Gunn and Peter Safran took charge of DC Studios and decided to reboot the DC Universe with a new Superman.
You can now find Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League on Blu-ray, DVD, and through various streaming services. And keep an eye out for Man of Tomorrow, which will be released in theaters on July 9, 2027.
