007 First Light’s TacSim Will be Used to Remix Levels for More Content And Fresh Challenges

IO Interactive, the studio behind the popular Hitman series, has a strong track record of supporting its games after release, and it seems they plan to continue this with their new 007 First Light game. In a recent Eurogamer interview, developers shared that they’re focusing on expanding the Tactical Simulations area—known as TacSim—within the game’s MI6 headquarters.

Tom Marcham, a senior combat designer, explained that while the new TacSim mode might seem like a harder difficulty setting, it’s actually much more than that. It will feature redesigned levels and areas, creating completely fresh challenges for players. For instance, locations that were previously safe might now contain combat. Marcham emphasized that TacSim will be a key tool for IO Interactive to rework and reimagine the levels in 007 First Light.

Véronique Lallier, the studio’s head of development, has announced plans for additional content and ongoing support for TacSim after it releases, including a public roadmap detailing future updates.

As a fan, it’s awesome to hear that the team sees launching the game as just the first step! They really want to learn what players think and use that feedback to make things even better. They’re planning to figure out what’s working, what isn’t, and what players want to see more or less of. They’ve been doing this with Hitman and the World of Assassination for over ten years, and they’re definitely committed to adding a lot more content going forward.

This game is a departure from Hitman, and that’s a key difference. Hitman is designed as a sandbox, encouraging replayability. This new game focuses more on a strong story, which means once you finish the narrative, options for continued play are limited. That’s where TacSim comes in – we want to keep the game evolving and adding new content.

Marcham also pointed out that TacSim could be more than just a new way for players to tackle challenges. He suggested that its leaderboards might become popular with fans of speedrunning games like Hitman.

The game 007 First Light is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S worldwide. To mark the launch, IO Interactive released a new trailer with CEO Hakan Abrak thanking fans. Critics have given the game positive reviews, including a 9/10 score from us, praising its high production quality, excellent level design, and unique approach to the James Bond franchise.

IO Interactive has confirmed they’re also developing a version of 007 First Light for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Originally intended to launch with the other versions of the game, the Switch 2 release will now happen later this summer. According to Abrak, the game is already playable on the Switch 2, and the team is focused on refining it to ensure smooth performance.
