Tristan Thompson Confirms Retirement From the NBA After 14 Years

Tristan Thompson is keeping fans updated on his life outside of basketball.

The former Cleveland Cavaliers center recently announced his retirement from the NBA after 14 seasons and shared what life has been like since leaving the game.

You know, listening to Tristan on Khloe’s podcast, it really struck me how much he’s grown. He said it honestly feels like he’s starting over, like a rookie all over again, and I think that’s a really positive thing. It’s great to hear him talk about it like that.

He explained that the biggest challenge for anyone, especially athletes, is deciding what to do after their playing career ends. He noted that transitioning into sports broadcasting is often the smoothest path for athletes, as it allows them to remain connected to the sport they’re passionate about and share their knowledge.

Tristan Thompson, 35, is a father to five children: 8-year-old True and 2-year-old Tatum with Khloe, 9-year-old Prince with Jordan Craig, and 4-year-old Theo with Maralee Nichols. He has now decided to concentrate his efforts on developing artificial intelligence.

He described wanting to find a truly meaningful and innovative role. He’s always been eager to learn, and now he’s focused on moving into the fields of AI and technology. He wants to be involved in shaping the future, rather than just participating in the present.

Tristan recognizes that leaving professional sports can be a difficult transition for athletes, often leaving them facing uncertain futures.

He explained that many people dwell on past failures, wondering why things ended and if they can get back on track. But he prefers to move on quickly, saying when an opportunity passes, it’s time to focus on the next one.

He explained he wasn’t willing to wait years to start pursuing his goals again, stating, ‘I’m going to begin right away.’

The basketball player is making being a dad a priority, acknowledging that eventually, age will catch up to him. He says, “At some point, father time wins.”

Tristan is enjoying being a dad, but he’s happy with the size of his family and doesn’t plan on having more children.
