Many fans agree that Black Clover features incredibly strong and memorable main characters. However, the series truly shines because author Yuki Tabata consistently gives even smaller characters opportunities to surprise and prove their strength, often exceeding expectations. This knack for developing seemingly minor characters adds a delightful twist to the story.
The exciting battles and dramatic moments in Black Clover, such as Asta and Yuno’s competition or Yami’s powerful transformations, often stole the show. But now that the manga has finished, fans are finally recognizing some of the series’ most overlooked and impressive characters.
Magna Swing’s Redeeming Match Is Black Clover’s Best
Magna initially came across as short-tempered and quick to anger, especially towards everyone except Yami. When he first joined the Black Bulls in Black Clover, he immediately started bullying Asta, which didn’t make a good first impression on viewers. However, Asta was able to defend against Magna’s attacks right away, leading many fans to dislike the boisterous Black Bull member.
Magna truly stood out during the Spade Kingdom Raid arc. Similar to many viewers of Black Clover, Dante initially underestimated Magna, but he quickly regretted that mistake. Magna powerfully defeated Dante using a flurry of punches and kicks, proving just how strong he is.
Jack the Ripper’s Brutality Slowly Dissipated to Reveal His Discipline
I’ve always been fascinated by Jack the Ripper! He didn’t come from wealth or privilege, actually, his early life was really rough, and I think that’s where his disturbing fascination with blades started. He really had to work his way up, putting in the hours to hone his skills, but honestly, his arrogance and how intensely violent he was meant a lot of people initially gravitated towards Asta and Yuno instead. It took a while for people to really see what Jack could do.
Fans realized they had underestimated Jack as he consistently faced the biggest dangers in the series. While he didn’t always win, he bravely confronted every opponent. Throughout the story, Jack’s initial wild fighting spirit gradually develops into more controlled discipline.
Charmy Pappitson Is a Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing
Charmy is a long-time fan favorite in Black Clover because she’s a source of lighthearted humor. She’s known for being adorable, but also for getting upset when someone takes her food! Despite being a bit moody and protective of her meals, she’s incredibly kind-hearted and fiercely opposes anything evil.
Honestly, I don’t think anyone saw just how incredible Charmy could be! It’s amazing to watch her transform – when she drops the silly act, you instantly feel a little bad for ever underestimating her. She goes from being this cute, funny side character to a total powerhouse who can absolutely crush any fight. It’s a really cool reveal!
Noelle Silva Is Naruto’s Sakura Haruno Done Right
When Noelle first appeared in Black Clover, she came across as a spoiled and arrogant noble, which many viewers didn’t like. However, Noelle has one of the most compelling character developments in the series. While many initially thought she’d simply be a love interest for the main character, she proved her strength and grew into a powerful fighter.
Throughout the Black Clover series, Noelle consistently proved her strength. She single-handedly defeated powerful foes like Vanica and Megicula, saving the kingdom from a terrifying threat. This demonstrated she’s just as capable as the main male characters and doesn’t require anyone to save her.
Sally’s Bizarre Curiosity Helped Her Become an Important Ally
Sally is a powerful, independent mage with a past connection to the Eye of the Midnight Sun. Initially appearing as a strange and minor villain, she was largely dismissed by others. However, after Asta persuades her to fight for a greater cause, Sally’s character undergoes a surprising transformation.
Sally became a researcher in the Clover Kingdom, creating new magical tools to help them prepare for war. Her inventions proved crucial during the invasion by the Spade Kingdom, significantly aiding the heroes. She also used her magic to safely guide citizens away from danger during the attacks.
Vanessa Enoteca’s Struggle for Freedom Is Epic
Vanessa’s story is about her journey to break free from a difficult and abusive situation and take control of her own life. Initially, she appears superficial, focused on attention and presenting a carefree image. But viewers soon discover the powerful and inspiring nature of her fight for independence.
You wouldn’t BELIEVE what happened when I faced the Witch Queen! I somehow unlocked this incredible magic – it’s called the Red Thread of Fate, and it’s seriously powerful. Basically, it summons this amazing red cat, and just by touching someone or something, it can change what happens! It was absolutely key to finally defeating the Witch Queen, and after that… well, I was finally free to live my life, and it felt amazing!
Grey’s Timidness Overshadowed Her Advanced Mage Powers
Grey from Black Clover didn’t initially make a strong impression on fans. She came across as shy and lacked confidence, and throughout the series, she often let others walk all over her. Even after joining the Black Bulls, she continued to prioritize pleasing others, leading many to believe she wasn’t capable of much.
Despite initial doubts, Grey surprised everyone when the Spade Kingdom attacked. When Gauche was severely wounded by Dante, she revealed a hidden talent: Transmutation magic. Using this power, she managed to heal Gauche’s life-threatening injury, earning her the rank of Arcane Stage mage.
Zora Ideale’s Initial Disdainful Attitude Wore Off
Zora from Black Clover doesn’t get the recognition he deserves, largely because he isn’t featured much in the series. His initially rude and mischievous behavior also contributes to why he’s often overlooked. Zora has always been a bit of a prankster, and his unpredictable nature and dismissive attitude towards others don’t help.
While Zora remains somewhat cynical, he discovers the value of teamwork while working with Asta and their friends. His trap magic proved crucial in the fight against Lucifero, and through his experiences with characters like Magna and Yami, he finds the motivation to fight for what’s right.
Luck Voltia Used to be Defined by His Bloodlust
Luck Voltia from Black Clover is a character who lives for battle, constantly seeking opponents and pushing fights to the extreme. Initially, his intense and somewhat disturbing behavior made it hard for viewers to connect with him. However, Luck undergoes significant development when he’s confronted with his own weaknesses and learns to open up emotionally.
Luck quickly discovered that simply being strong wasn’t enough to truly protect those he cared about. He began training in the Heart Kingdom, focusing on making his spells much more powerful. His biggest advancement came when he mastered Ultimate Magic: Lightning Battle Fiend, a technique that surrounds his body with protective lightning armor.
Morris Libardirt Is the Most Annoying Villain
Tabata intentionally gave Moris Libardirt the nickname ‘dirt,’ and it was a calculated move. Moris had climbed to a position of power within the Diamond Kingdom using his intelligence and abilities, but he began manipulating the King and conducting cruel experiments on people. Though Mars banished him from the kingdom, fans assumed that meant he was finished, but Moris showed everyone that underestimating him was a dangerous mistake.
Moris continued his research in that location and sped up the growth of the Tree of Qliphoth, which opened pathways for devils to enter the human world. He remains a major and persistent threat throughout the entire Black Clover series.
