In 2008, one of the main actors from The Big Bang Theory appeared in a really good horror movie that most people didn’t see because it came out around the same time as other big releases. Like the stars of Friends, the actors from The Big Bang Theory became well-known after the show ended in 2019. But not all of them were newcomers to acting. While Jim Parsons wasn’t famous before the show, Johnny Galecki had already been in several TV shows as a child and teenager, including Blossom and Roseanne.
While Kunal Nayyar and Simon Helberg weren’t well-known actors at the time, Kaley Cuoco had already built a solid TV background with roles in shows like Ladies Man (2001) and 8 Simple Rules (2002). The Big Bang Theory ultimately made her a star, but she’d also been in several movies before the series started. These were mostly comedies and films for younger audiences, though she did venture into horror with the 2008 indie slasher film, Killer Movie. A smart and self-aware horror film similar to Scream, Killer Movie is still surprisingly good, even 18 years later.
Kaley Cuoco’s Killer Movie Is A Criminally Underrated Indie Slasher

Jeff Fisher, a director known for reality TV, playfully pokes fun at the world he used to work in with his movie, Killer Movie. The film centers on Jack Tanner, a director who takes his crew to a small town to film a documentary about the local hockey team. He’s frustrated to learn that he must include the unpredictable celebrity Bianca Champion in the show, or his funding will be cut off.
Things really ramp up when people connected to the movie start turning up dead! It wasn’t just the director and the star arguing anymore; someone was actually killing people on set, and it felt like they were systematically going after Tanner and Champion. I know the ‘who is the killer?’ story isn’t exactly new, but honestly, Killer Movie kept me guessing. And the kills? Way more gruesome than I expected from an indie slasher from that time – definitely not what I was prepared for!
Killer Movie Arrived At The Wrong Time For Kaley Cuoco’s Career

Kaley Cuoco is hilarious as Bianca, but Paul Wesley really shines as the complex lead – he plays a cynical guy you end up rooting for anyway. And wow, the cast is full of familiar faces! You’ve got Leighton Meester before her Gossip Girl days, and the director clearly knows the reality TV world inside and out, which gives the movie’s jokes a real edge. It’s a shame it came out at the wrong time, though. This dark, R-rated slasher comedy just didn’t quite land with audiences when it was released.
Released in early 2008, just before The Big Bang Theory became a massive hit, Killer Movie could have been a big success if its cast – Kaley Cuoco, Blake Wesley, and Leighton Meester – had achieved greater recognition a year later. While the following years saw a wave of popular and well-received self-aware slasher comedies like Cabin in the Woods, the Happy Death Day and Ready or Not series, and the new Scream films, along with titles like Bodies Bodies Bodies, Totally Killer, Heart Eyes, and Clown in a Cornfield, Killer Movie unfortunately arrived a little too soon to benefit from that growing trend.
