Two popular games originally released on the PlayStation Portable (PSP) in 2008 and 2009 are getting remastered and re-released on current PlayStation consoles and potentially other platforms. PlayStation has been bringing back several PSP titles in recent years, mainly for PS5 and PS4, as part of its growing collection of “Classics” available through the PlayStation Store and PS Plus. This upcoming release will give players on various platforms a chance to enjoy these PSP favorites again.
NIS America announced this week that they’re releasing a remastered version of R-Type Tactics I + II Cosmos, the strategy spin-offs from the classic R-Type series. The first game, originally known as R-Type Command in North America, came out on PSP in Japan in 2007 and elsewhere in 2008. Its sequel, R-Type Tactics II: Operation Bitter Chocolate, was only available in Japan in 2009. Now, after 17 years, the sequel is finally being released worldwide alongside the original in this new remake.
What to Expect From This PSP Remake
The biggest change in R-Type Tactics I + II Cosmos is a visual upgrade. While the core strategy gameplay remains the same as the original R-Type Tactics games, the graphics have been completely modernized, offering a significant improvement over the PSP versions. The game also includes brand new content that continues the story after the events of the second game, meaning even longtime fans will have fresh missions to experience.
The remake of R-Type Tactics I + II Cosmos is coming to more than just PlayStation! You’ll be able to play it on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC starting June 18th. NIS America hasn’t announced how much the game will cost yet, but we expect to hear pricing details soon.
