2025 was a fantastic year for anime, and the last few months were particularly exciting. While new shows were about to start, many fans were most looking forward to the big anime movies coming out from September onwards. First, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle hit theaters in the US in September and quickly broke numerous records. Then came Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, which many felt was even better than Demon Slayer in terms of how it looked and the story it told.
Fans in the United States feel the same way, and despite not reaching the same blockbuster numbers as Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, Chainsaw Man – The Movie has quickly become a major success. After just three weeks in U.S. theaters, it’s already one of the top five highest-grossing anime films ever released in the country, earning $30.8 million. This pushed Jujutsu Kaisen 0—which had held the fifth-place position with $30.7 million since its release—down the list. This is particularly impressive because the film didn’t experience as steep a drop in ticket sales during its third weekend as the first Demon Slayer movie did.
Chainsaw Man Movie Becomes One of the Top 5 Highest-Grossing Anime Movies of All Time in America
Great news for fans! The movie Chainsaw Man has now become the fifth highest-grossing anime film in US box office history, surpassing Jujutsu Kaisen 0. It earned $900,000 on its third Friday, with a drop of only 30.7% from the previous Friday. For comparison, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 earned $562,000 on its third Friday, a drop of 57%.

Film analyst Luiz Fernando recently pointed out a strong performance by the Chainsaw Man movie. On November 7th, it earned $900,000, which was a 30.7% decrease from the previous Friday. Interestingly, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 made $562,000 on its third Friday, but experienced a larger drop of 57%. Chainsaw Man even outperformed the first Demon Slayer: Mugen Train film on its third Friday ($863K, down 53.1%). This is particularly notable because Chainsaw Man is rated R and therefore had fewer opportunities to screen in theaters compared to the recent Demon Slayer movie.
The movie faced limited release internationally because of its mature rating. However, despite playing in fewer theaters, it has become one of the top five highest-grossing anime films ever in the U.S., earning over $158 million worldwide. While it’s unlikely to beat Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (which made $196 million globally and ranks 11th), it could still break into the top 15, as it’s only $12 million away from Princess Mononoke‘s $170 million total. It’s remarkable that the Chainsaw Man movie has done so well, as it’s the first R-rated anime to come this close to such a high ranking.
