4 Years Later, Dandadan’s Studio Best Anime Isn’t Streaming Anywhere

Founded in 2013, Science SARU is an animation studio known for its distinctive anime films and series. While studios like Toei Animation have a long history and MAPPA gained fame with hits like Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan, Science SARU quietly built a reputation for visually stunning and well-written anime over the past decade. It wasn’t until 2024, with the release of Dandadan, that the studio truly broke through to a global audience. Dandadan’s second season recently aired, and a third is already in production. Many fans consider Dandadan to have some of the best animation in the Shonen genre, and expectations are high for the upcoming season. Adding to the excitement, their Fall 2025 anime, Sanda, is already generating buzz as another fantastic manga adaptation. Though Dandadan is their biggest success so far, Science SARU continues to impress anime fans with its consistently innovative and high-quality animation.

What Is Inu-Oh About?

This often-overlooked series comes from acclaimed director Masaaki Yuasa of Science SARU and boasts a distinctive animation style. Set 300 years after the historical Heike Clan’s defeat – as recounted in The Tale of the Heike – the story follows Inu-Oh, a gifted dancer born with a disfigurement and believed to be cursed, and Tomona, a blind musician who plays the biwa.

Tomona lost both his father and his sight while searching for an old sword in the waters of Dan-no-ura, a famous historical battlefield. Because both he and his father were outcasts, they connected deeply and began performing together. Their unique shows revealed the hidden history of the Heike Clan.

Why Is Inu-Oh Being Removed?

Movies and series usually disappear from streaming services when the platform’s licensing agreements end. Sometimes, they’re removed simply to save money, and less popular titles are cut to keep costs down and the library manageable. Renewing a license is always possible, but there’s no way to predict if or when a show will be available again.

Netflix is taking down over a hundred shows and movies this year, including several anime series like Mob Psycho and Sirius the Jaeger. While Inu-Oh is a fantastic anime with great storytelling and animation, it’s unfortunately among the titles being removed and may not return. Other anime are also being taken off the platform, but some of these titles could be available again after a few months or more.
