5 Coolest Overpowered Supervillains Not in Marvel or DC Movies (Ranked By Power Level)

Superhero movies are incredibly popular today, filled with characters who have all kinds of motivations. While Marvel and DC are the biggest names and produce many of the most well-known films, fantastic superhero movies also come from other sources. This means there are plenty of amazing heroes and villains who aren’t part of the Marvel or DC universes.

As a huge movie fan, I’ve seen a lot of amazing comic book villains, and it’s awesome when they come from outside the usual Marvel and DC universes. The truly great ones aren’t just powerful, they’re also captivating – characters you love to hate and who genuinely feel like a threat to our heroes. So, I’ve put together a list of 5 of the coolest, most powerful villains from movies not based on those big two franchises.

5) Casanova Frankenstein – Mystery Men (1999)

When people talk about overlooked superhero movies, Mystery Men rarely gets the credit it deserves. The film boasts a hilarious cast playing a team of quirky heroes who band together to stop the brilliantly portrayed villain, Casanova Frankenstein (played by Geoffrey Rush). While he might not be the strongest supervillain outside of Marvel or DC, Casanova Frankenstein is definitely one of the most memorable, relying on his incredible intelligence to create amazing weapons and outsmart his powerful rival, Captain Amazing.

4) Megamind – Megamind (2010)

Great superhero movies aren’t limited to Marvel or DC, and they don’t always need traditional heroes. Megamind is a prime example – it tells the story from the villain’s perspective, exploring the complicated questions of right and wrong often found in superhero stories. Like many supervillains, Megamind is incredibly intelligent and builds amazing gadgets and technology to challenge even the strongest heroes.

3) Andrew – Chronicle (2012)

The 2012 film Chronicle is often overlooked, but it’s a standout superhero movie. It tells the story of three friends who gain telekinetic powers, and how one of them, Andrew, slowly turns into a villain. His powers are incredibly strong and scary, and even though he might not be the most stylish villain out there, he’s definitely one of the most powerful supervillains in movies outside of the Marvel and DC universes.

2) Rasputin – Hellboy (2004)

The 2004 film Hellboy, based on the Dark Horse Comics series, follows a demon who was brought to Earth and raised to protect humans from the supernatural. The movie’s villain is Grigori Rasputin, a powerful occultist who tries to control Hellboy and trigger a global catastrophe. Rasputin is exceptionally dangerous, able to evade death and nearly wipe out all life, and he has a flair for dramatic, memorable outfits.

1) The Violator – Spawn (1997)

While many comic book movies are well-made, the 1997 film Spawn isn’t among them. The villain, Violator—primarily appearing as a clown in the movie—isn’t necessarily the most impressive villain ever, but he’s definitely very powerful. As a demon, he has a wide range of abilities, including telekinesis, incredible strength and a long lifespan, plus the power to change his shape. Despite the film’s shortcomings, Violator stands out as one of the strongest villains outside of the Marvel and DC universes.
