As we approach the middle of 2026, DC Comics is continuing its strong momentum. Following the launch of the ‘Next Level’ initiative earlier this year – which introduced several new series and entry points for readers – DC is keeping up the pace this summer. With expansions to the ‘Absolute Universe’ line, plus several new team-ups and alternate reality stories, there’s a lot coming out this month to appeal to all kinds of comic fans, particularly those who enjoy Sonic the Hedgehog!
DC Comics and SEGA are teaming up again for a new series called DC x Sonic the Hedgehog: The Metal Legion, bringing these two universes together with exciting team-ups. This month also features solo adventures for two Green Lanterns – Guy Gardner in a one-shot issue, and the start of Absolute Green Arrow. While Marvel is building towards a major event, DC has plenty to offer too! Here are 5 comics you won’t want to miss this month.
5. DC X Sonic The Hedgehog: The Metal Legion #1

I really enjoyed the first DC x Sonic the Hedgehog comic from 2025. I was surprised it worked so well, combining those two universes! That’s why I’m excited about DC x Sonic the Hedgehog: The Metal Legion #1. While the details are limited, we know the two worlds are crossing over again. And with new Sonic characters like Rouge and Cream joining the fun – complete with their own DC superhero costumes – I think this new issue will be a blast.
4. Superman: Father of Tomorrow #1

I was surprised when I first learned about this story, but now I think it’s going to be really good. Superman: Father of Tomorrow #1 kicks off a new Elseworlds series, and like all great Elseworlds tales, it centers around a single, intriguing question: What if Jor-El was the sole survivor of Krypton? It’s a simple yet original idea, and I’m honestly surprised it hasn’t been explored before. It will be fascinating to see how the DC Universe evolves with Superman’s father stepping in as the new Man of Steel.
3. Tales of the Green Lantern Corps: Guy Gardner #1

Okay, so Guy Gardner isn’t always the most popular Green Lantern, but I always have a blast whenever he’s around! He had a good run in the new Superman movie and even tried his hand in DC K.O., but this year has been amazing for him. Now, he’s getting his own one-shot comic, written by Gerry Dugan (who does Deadpool!) and illustrated by Matteo Lolli. The previews promised a ton of action, including a fight with his old friend John Stewart. If you’re a Green Lantern fan like me, you absolutely need to read this one!
2. Barbara Gordon: Breakout #1

Barbara Gordon hasn’t been the main character in a comic book for a while, but that’s about to change! However, her return to the spotlight comes with a twist: she’s been arrested and sent to Supermax, one of the most secure prisons in the DC Universe. True to form, Barbara is already plotting her escape. It’ll be strange seeing her behind bars instead of as Batgirl or Oracle, but I’m confident she’ll find a way to right the wrongs done to her during her breakout.
1. Absolute Green Arrow #1

Everyone’s been wondering how Oliver Queen’s death would affect the Absolute Universe, and now we have an answer. A new archer, calling himself the Long Bow Hunter, has taken up Queen’s cause – targeting wealthy individuals with deadly force. Absolute Black Canary is pursuing him, but figuring out who’s behind the mask is proving difficult, as all the suspects were connected to the late Oliver Queen. I don’t know what’s next for this series, but I’m really looking forward to finding out!
