It’s a bit disappointing that sidekicks haven’t become major players in the Marvel Universe. While new, less experienced heroes often take up the mantles of older ones or forge their own paths, sidekicks aren’t nearly as common or important in Marvel as they are in DC. They exist, but most end up fading into obscurity, rarely being remembered or mentioned again.
It’s frustrating that so many great sidekicks get overlooked. Take Bob, Agent of Hydra, for example – fans really liked him, but he hasn’t been a major character in ages. Or Alpha, Spider-Man’s former partner who seemed poised to become his sidekick like Robin is to Batman. It’s not just that there aren’t many sidekicks, it’s that Marvel has let so many potentially great ones fade into obscurity. If you’re interested in learning about these forgotten heroes and giving them some recognition, keep reading!
5. Bob, Agent of Hydra

Hydra is a terrible organization, but Deadpool unexpectedly found a good person within it named Bob. Bob was forced to join Hydra, despite not believing in their ideas or having any special talents. He met Deadpool while Deadpool was on a mission, and they became surprisingly close friends. Bob doesn’t have much going for him except that he’s willing to put up with Deadpool’s antics, but he’s a really enjoyable character who brought a lot of fun to Wade Wilson’s story.
4. Toro

Okay, so for those of us who really follow Marvel history, you know the original Human Torch wasn’t the one most people think of – it was Jim Hammond. But dig a little deeper, and you’ll discover he had a partner, a sidekick named Toro. This kid, Thomas Raymond, had a pretty unique backstory. His parents were scientists who worked with the Human Torch’s creator, and he was actually born with a resistance to fire! He lost his parents young and grew up in the circus until the Human Torch found him. Toro ended up with powers similar to his mentor and they fought crime together for years. Honestly, I’ve lost track of when we last saw Toro on screen, but he always brought a certain something special to the Human Torch’s adventures.
3. Free Spirit

Bucky Barnes will always be Captain America’s most famous partner, but Cathy Webster, also known as Free Spirit, deserves recognition too. She was a young woman used in a dangerous experiment that turned her into a weapon, but she broke free and joined Captain America. As part of the Captain America Hotline team, she helped him on many adventures. Free Spirit’s determination and incredible physical abilities made her a valuable ally, and fans hope to see her return in future stories.
2. Alpha

It’s surprising how quickly people forgot about Alpha, also known as Andy Maguire. Like Spider-Man, a single event dramatically changed Andy’s life – in his case, exposure to something called ‘Parker Particles’ which gave him incredible speed and energy. I can see why Alpha wasn’t popular; he was often irresponsible and put many people in danger, even Spider-Man himself. Spider-Man once took away his powers, but Alpha later regained them. I always thought the idea of Alpha had potential, and I still believe it’s worth revisiting the character, maybe just one more time.
1. Blindspot

Samuel Chung, also known as Blindspot, never quite got the attention he deserved. He was a young immigrant who quickly invented an invisibility suit and started protecting his community in Chinatown. Realizing he needed more skill, he teamed up with Daredevil, but their partnership didn’t last long. After a conflict caused by the villain Muse, they reconciled, but Sam hasn’t been a major player since. It feels like a wasted opportunity to have ended his collaboration with Daredevil, as he had so much potential.
