7 Coolest Overpowered Isekai Heroes (Ranked By Power Level)

Isekai is a hugely popular type of anime, and it’s given us some incredibly powerful characters. A common theme is taking ordinary people and transporting them to new worlds where they gain extraordinary abilities – essentially becoming god-like. This power often comes from a unique advantage or ‘cheat’ that no one else possesses.

With so many new ‘isekai’ anime coming out, we’ve seen a lot of incredibly powerful main characters who just keep getting stronger. It’s fun to think about which of these heroes would win in a battle, so here’s a ranking of seven of the most overpowered isekai heroes, based on how strong they are.

7). Kirito (Sword Art Online)

When discussing incredibly powerful characters in the Isekai genre, Kirito is a name that always comes up. While not the very first Isekai anime, Sword Art Online significantly shaped the genre as we know it today. Kirito rapidly became the strongest player in the virtual world, largely due to his unique ability to wield two swords – a skill no one else possessed. Throughout the anime’s various story arcs, he’s consistently proven his strength with numerous impressive victories.

I’ve been watching this character, and he’s become incredibly powerful within his world – almost like a god. However, compared to the main characters in other ‘isekai’ stories that came out later, he’s not as overwhelmingly strong. His powers are mostly confined to his original world and anything directly connected to it. Honestly, he’d probably be outmatched by heroes with more well-rounded abilities. He’s powerful, sure, but not nearly as unbeatable as you might expect.

6). Lufas Maphaahl (A Wild Last Boss Has Appeared!)

Lufas Maphaahl, a recent addition to the world of Isekai anime, quickly became a standout character in A Wild Last Boss Has Appeared! The story reveals that Lufas wasn’t just a character within the game, but a real person living in a world mirroring the game’s universe, complete with its own developing history. And when it comes to power, Lufas is incredibly strong.

Lufas is incredibly powerful, possessing immense strength, speed, and magical ability – even when flying. They can not only cast powerful spells, but also create objects by transforming materials. As a Level 1000 being, Lufas is currently as strong as the Demon Lord, though they still haven’t revealed the full extent of their power.

5). Makoto Misumi (Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy)

Makoto’s story is similar – he also finds himself unexpectedly transported to another world. Born to two heroes who originally came from a different realm, he’s rejected by the world’s goddess because of his appearance. Luckily, another god grants him incredible powers. However, he’s currently hiding the full extent of those powers, fearing the goddess who wants him eliminated if she discovers his true strength.

Makoto consistently defeats his enemies while deliberately limiting his own power. He’s already proven incredibly strong despite holding back, leaving us wondering just how capable he truly is. Even with these limitations, his skills – including weapons and magic – are remarkable, and seem to be part of him testing his boundaries. This suggests both he and his followers have the potential to become even more powerful.

4). Cid Kagenou (The Eminence in Shadow)

The situation is similar with Shadow, as Cid Kagenou intentionally downplays his abilities to appear ordinary. However, Cid differs from Makoto in that he has a powerful team working behind the scenes. This team secretly controls many industries and will remove anyone who poses a threat. While Makoto and Lufas have a diverse group of fighters, Cid’s organization is much larger and fiercely loyal to him.

His followers are completely devoted, even to the point of self-destruction if he demanded it—though thankfully, he won’t. He’s incredibly powerful with the potential to become even stronger, and he could unleash devastating force if he chose to. However, his own arrogance is his biggest weakness, which creates an interesting and compelling character dynamic.

3). Yogiri Takatou (My Instant Death Ability Is So Overpowered)

Yogiri’s anime, My Instant Death Ability Is So Overpowered, might not be as well-known as some other Isekai series, and he doesn’t have a large team supporting him, but he doesn’t need one. The story begins when Yogiri and his classmates are transported to another world, and it’s discovered he secretly possessed a powerful ability back home: he can instantly defeat anyone who poses a threat to him.

This ability has no limits – it activates instantly with just a thought, even unconsciously. It can reach incredible distances and destroy almost anything. It’s so powerful that it makes him the most dangerous hero on this list, though perhaps not the absolute strongest.

2). Ains Ooal Gown (Overlord)

While a quick kill ability is dangerous, some characters are well-equipped to resist it, and Ains is a prime example. He possesses a wide range of magical skills and has access to powerful items previously owned by other members of Nazarick. Furthermore, he can rely on the strength and unique abilities of the other formidable fighters within Nazarick.

What really stands out about Ains is how thoroughly he prepares for fights. He layers multiple spells on top of each other to give himself an edge. We haven’t seen him truly unleash his full potential in a major battle yet, so he’s likely much more powerful than he appears. He has a higher potential ceiling than anyone else we’ve seen, and could likely overwhelm opponents if he had the opportunity.

1). Rimuru (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime)

When it comes to characters with incredible potential – someone who could even survive a normally fatal blow, and commands a huge, powerful army – Rimuru Tempest from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is hard to beat. He started as a simple slime reborn into a new world, but has grown into one of its most formidable beings.

Now that Rimuru has become a True Demon Lord, their potential is unmatched. Beyond possessing a huge range of powerful skills, Rimuru can completely absorb opponents, taking and dismantling their unique abilities. This means they’re only going to get stronger. Unlike the heroes who might hold back, Rimuru will always fight with full force, giving them a significant edge in any competition.
