Since January 2025, a certain show had been at the top of HBO Max’s most-watched list. Now, though, Euphoria has taken the lead. Season 3 of Euphoria was highly anticipated for 2026, and its chart-topping performance proves it was a hit.
As a big TV fan, I’ve been following the numbers, and right now Euphoria is absolutely dominating HBO Max – it’s the most-watched show globally, according to FlixPatrol! It jumped to the top spot almost immediately after Season 3 dropped on April 12th. But even with all the buzz, it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster – Season 3 has definitely had its share of controversy.
As a huge fan, I’ve been completely hooked by Euphoria. It follows Rue, a teenager battling a really tough addiction, and it’s not just her story – the show has this amazing cast, with Zendaya leading alongside actors like Maude Apatow, Jacob Elordi, Angus Cloud, and so many others. I’m especially excited for Season 3 because it jumps ahead in time, showing what happens when these characters grow up and face adult challenges.
Euphoria Season 3 Took a Long Time to Debut
A major challenge was the long gap between seasons 2 and 3. The actors, who were already grown up while portraying teenagers, would have struggled to convincingly play those roles again. Therefore, it was logical to move the story forward in time for the new season.
Even after just one episode, the new season of Euphoria is facing criticism for its mature themes, explicit content, and how it portrays women. Viewers and critics both expressed concerns after seeing the trailer and initial reviews.
Euphoria Season 3 Was Not a Hit with Critics
Critics generally like the HBO series Euphoria, giving it a score of 79% on Rotten Tomatoes. The first season earned an 80% “Certified Fresh” rating, while the second season scored 78% and also received the “Certified Fresh” designation. The show’s two special episodes, focusing on the characters Rue and Jules, were also highly praised by critics.
The show has received mixed reviews, with a 44% score from critics on the Tomatometer and a 51% audience score on the Popcornmeter. Hunter Ingram of TheWrap noted that it’s difficult to support characters who don’t seem to want to help themselves, and that not enough of the characters are capable of self-improvement.
Despite generally negative reviews of the show, many critics continued to praise Zendaya’s acting. Peter Travers of The Travers Take noted that after four years, the once groundbreaking series now feels repetitive. He stated that while Zendaya is still a standout performer, the third – and potentially final – season doesn’t live up to previous standards.
Zendaya made history by becoming the youngest person to win a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, and she won it twice for her role as Rue in Euphoria. Her captivating performance continues to draw viewers in and is a major reason for the show’s popularity on streaming platforms.
Euphoria is available to stream on HBO Max, with new episodes of Season 3 every Sunday.
