The Marvel Cinematic Universe has featured several strong villains who use magic, but many even more powerful magical threats from the comics haven’t appeared in the movies yet. Magic has been a significant advantage for many characters in the MCU, helping heroes like Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, and Thor defeat major villains. However, some villains have fought back with magic of their own, and we might see even more magically powerful enemies join the MCU in the future.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has seen numerous villains – including Loki (who later became a hero), the Scarlet Witch at times, and figures like Mephisto, Kaecilius, Dormammu, Hela, and Agatha Harkness – use magic for evil. However, many more powerful magic users exist in Marvel Comics who haven’t yet appeared in the movies. Bringing these villains into the MCU would dramatically shift the balance of power, reshape the franchise, and create compelling adversaries for the heroes we’re eagerly anticipating.
7) Morgan le Fay
Since first appearing in Marvel Comics in 1955, Morgan le Fay has become one of the company’s most well-known female villains. As a half-human, half-faerie, she possesses magical powers and can live forever. This long life has allowed her to master the Mystic Arts, making her a powerful sorceress with the goal of ruling Britain. She frequently clashes with heroes like Doctor Strange, Spider-Woman, and the Black Knight. While Elizabeth Hurley portrayed her in the Runaways series, that show isn’t part of the official Marvel Cinematic Universe, so fans are still hoping to see her appear in an MCU project.
6) Zarathos
Zarathos is a powerful demonic entity in Marvel comics known for tormenting and consuming souls. He’s particularly important because he’s the spirit that merges with Johnny Blaze to create Ghost Rider. While Ghost Rider often fights for good, Zarathos himself is a cruel and malevolent being with the magical ability to alter reality, even challenging the powerful demon Mephisto. The humanity of his hosts keeps Zarathos’s full, destructive potential in check, channeling it towards heroic acts. With rumors swirling about Ghost Rider joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, many fans hope to finally see Zarathos brought to life on screen.
5) Umar
With Dormammu and Clea now established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through previous Doctor Strange films, the stage is set for the introduction of Umar. In Marvel Comics, Umar is Dormammu’s sister and Clea’s mother – a powerful being from another dimension, known as a Faltine, who is currently inhabiting a human form. She possesses incredible magical abilities, surpassing even Earth’s strongest sorcerers, and is a notorious, manipulative, and significant adversary of Doctor Strange. The post-credits scene of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hinted at Umar’s arrival, but she hasn’t appeared in the MCU yet.
4) Amora the Enchantress
The character Sylvie from the Loki series on Disney+ was partly inspired by the Marvel Comics character Enchantress (Amora), though Amora herself hasn’t appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet. First introduced in 1964’s Journey into Mystery #103, Amora is a powerful Asgardian villain with a long history of opposing Thor. She learned magic from Karnilla, Queen of the Norns, and also gained power by seducing and learning from other magic users. Skilled in both charm and mind control, many fans hope to see Amora challenge Chris Hemsworth’s Thor in a future MCU story.
3) Dracula
Now that Mahershala Ali is preparing to play Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it would be fantastic to see one of his most famous foes appear as well. Marvel’s version of Dracula, based on the character from Bram Stoker’s classic novel, is a centuries-old vampire lord with a mastery of dark magic and incredible powers. He’s exceptionally strong, doesn’t age, and can heal quickly, control minds, hypnotize people, and even change his shape – making him a potentially terrifying and formidable villain for the MCU.
2) Selene Gallio
Marvel has been gradually adding mutants to its cinematic universe, and it would be exciting to see one of the very first mutants appear. Selene Gallio is incredibly old – over 17,000 years – because she can absorb the life force of others. Over millennia, she’s collected a vast amount of magical knowledge, making her a powerful and dangerous foe. As more mutants and the X-Men are introduced in future Marvel movies, it would be amazing to see Selene brought to life on screen.
1) Chthon
Wanda Maximoff, once a hero but now a villain known as the Scarlet Witch, has a complicated and sinister backstory in both Marvel comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness showed that the powerful demonic being Chthon – the source of Wanda’s Chaos Magic in the comics – actually created a temple dedicated to the Scarlet Witch. This hints that if Wanda returns, it could also bring Chthon into the MCU. As an ancient and incredibly powerful god, Chthon possesses immense magical abilities, making him one of the most formidable and unpredictable villains imaginable.
