After being a Nintendo 3DS game for nine years, Capcom’s classic title and its sequel are now coming to Xbox consoles. Xbox players will soon have two new games to enjoy! While the games are technically the Xbox One versions, players on the newer Xbox Series X and Series S consoles will still be able to play them through backward compatibility.
Starting November 14th, Xbox players on all Xbox consoles will be able to play both *Monster Hunter Stories* and *Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin*. These turn-based RPGs are being released on Xbox before the launch of the newest game in the series, *Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection*, which is coming to Xbox Series X and other platforms on March 13, 2026. This means the entire *Monster Hunter Stories* series will soon be available for Xbox players.
About the Games
The RPG *Monster Hunter Stories* first launched in 2016 for the Nintendo 3DS. It’s since been released on other platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PC, and PlayStation 4, with an Xbox One version arriving now. The game received a score of 79 on Metacritic and was popular enough to warrant a sequel, *Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin*, in 2021. Initially available on Switch and PC, *Wings of Ruin* came to PS4 in 2024 and is now also being released on Xbox One, bringing it to all major platforms. The sequel earned an 82 on Metacritic – a bit higher than the original – and strong sales have led to plans for another installment.
A Long Wait Almost Over
While the *Monster Hunter* series is best known on Nintendo consoles, many Xbox players are fans, particularly after enjoying *Monster Hunter World* and the upcoming *Monster Hunter Wilds*. These fans had begun to worry they’d never get the spin-off games on their platform, so the news is understandably exciting.
The most popular comment on the YouTube trailer says, “I’m so glad this finally happened! Now I can play the *Stories* collection on Xbox.” Another user jokingly offered to give all their money, saying, “Just take my paycheck!”
So, yeah, let me know what you guys think in the comments! Or head over to the ComicBook Forum to chat about it. I’m definitely curious if you’ll be checking out these Capcom games when they come to Xbox. But even if these Capcom announcements aren’t your thing, don’t worry – there’s more! Square Enix quietly dropped a new game this week too, so there’s plenty for Xbox fans to get excited about.
