It appears that whispers about a second expansion for Starfield persist, but some unearthed files by dataminers within the latest updates of the sci-fi RPG suggest that Bethesda is incorporating a popular fan request into the game. Reddit user Zealousideal-Buyer-7 uncovered references in the game’s code, which hint that players will soon be able to navigate their in-game spaceships across different planets within the same star system.
From my perspective as an avid gamer, it seems that the game references to interplanetary travel only allow us to navigate within the same star system. The dream of interstellar travel remains elusive, requiring us to follow familiar sequences just as before. Moreover, we cannot set our spaceships down on planets directly; instead, an automated landing cutscene kicks in when we attempt such maneuvers.
As an enthusiastic admirer, I’d like to clarify that the mentions about interplanetary travel in Starfield’s code might simply be speculation. Bethesda has yet to confirm any development work on this aspect for Starfield. It’s possible that due to unforeseen challenges, this feature may not make it into the game at all. Sometimes, unused or unfinished code can accidentally find its way into the final product, regardless of whether the associated feature is included or not.
If the mentioned feature gets added to Starfield, it’s speculated that it could come with the anticipated second expansion for the RPG. Keep in mind, Bethesda hasn’t officially verified the development of this expansion. Nevertheless, whispers about its possible creation have been circulating since earlier this year. These rumors suggest that an announcement regarding the expansion might happen sometime this year.
It’s worth noting that there are rumors suggesting that Starfield might debut on PS5 simultaneously with its second expansion, which is tentatively set for a Spring 2026 launch. According to these reports, Bethesda aims to release both the expansion and the PS5 version during this timeframe. Furthermore, it’s been speculated that Microsoft will officially confirm the game’s arrival on PS5, as well as the expansion, at Gamescom later in August.
As a dedicated fan, I fondly recall Bethesda’s announcement back in March about their future plans for Starfield, which they described as “exciting things” set for 2025. Since then, however, the company has remained tight-lipped regarding any further details about potential updates or developments for this highly anticipated game.
You’ve been patiently waiting for news on Starfield, and your enthusiasm doesn’t go unnoticed,” the team stated. “Behind the scenes, we’ve been working tirelessly, though we’re not quite ready to disclose specifics just yet. However, there are plenty of thrilling developments in store for the game this year that we can’t wait to reveal when the moment is perfect.
