In a thrilling turn of events, Daredevil and Punisher are once again locking horns as filming commences for the second season of “Daredevil: Rebirth.” These gritty superheroes are back on Disney+, with “Daredevil: Rebirth” also welcoming back the formidable Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin. The upcoming season is shaping up to be filled with unexpected plot twists and turns, along with the return of Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones. With fans clamoring for more tales involving Daredevil and Punisher, Marvel is responding by pitting these two tenacious vigilantes against each other in a new series, where they will engage in an epic showdown.
The comic series ‘Daredevil/Punisher: The Devil’s Trigger,’ penned by Jimmy Palmiotti, one of the co-founders of Marvel Knights, along with artist Tommaso Bianchi (known for ‘Thunderbolts: Doomstrike’), is a five-issue limited release. Although Marvel has recently resurrected the Marvel Knights imprint through the Black Panther-centric ‘Marvel Knights: The World to Come,’ ‘Daredevil/Punisher: The Devil’s Trigger’ doesn’t seem to bear that label. Nevertheless, it might be a self-contained story, separate from the main Marvel Universe.
Palmiotti openly expressed that writing this series has been an enjoyable and rewarding experience for him. He went on to say that revisiting this storyline, which was first ignited during the Marvel Knights era, is like a surge of adrenaline and a nostalgic trip down memory lane. It also offers him the chance to delve further into what makes both the Punisher and Daredevil stand out in the Marvel Universe. Going back to these iconic characters and their intense ideological conflict feels like stepping back into a grimy, familiar setting for him. The Punisher has eliminated the Gnucci family, but the void doesn’t last long as Daredevil observes the emergence of four new crime syndicates rising from the embers to seize control of the city.
In his pursuit of new criminal dynasties, Frank intends to show Matt Murdock that true justice often requires a gun, he asserted. This is a clash between principles and brute force as Hell’s Kitchen transforms into a warzone, not only for territory, but for the very essence of justice. Writing this has been an exhilarating experience, bordering on illicit enjoyment. Diving into Matt’s thoughts has been both exciting and challenging; the more I delve, the more I understand: both characters have valid points, yet they are both alarmingly misguided. The struggle between their moral standpoints is what pulses through this entire series.
