Amy Schumer Shares She Underwent Back Surgery

Amy Schumer is on the mend.

The actress known as “Kinda Pregnant” revealed that she had a recent back operation, offering a light-hearted perspective on her recuperation following her hospital stay.

In a post on her Instagram Story on August 8th, accompanied by a picture of herself reclining in bed, Amy humorously commented, “Apparently pickleball is what keeps this place running after my surgery.

Over the years, she’s never shied away from discussing her health experiences. Back in 2021, she had a surgical procedure called a hysterectomy to manage endometriosis – a condition where non-uterine tissue develops abnormally.

The doctor discovered and subsequently extracted 30 instances of endometriosis from the patient, who is also a comedian and mother to a 6-year-old son named Gene with her husband Chris Fischer. She shared on Instagram that he additionally removed her appendix due to Endometriosis causing damage, and there was considerable bleeding in her uterus.

Around three years past, Amy revealed that she’d been given a diagnosis for Cushing syndrome – a condition stemming from long-term steroid usage due to its impact on hormones.

As I stood before the cameras for my hit Hulu series, I simultaneously spent hours in MRI machines with blood being drained from my veins, fearing I might not witness my son’s growth into manhood. But then came the most exhilarating news: I was diagnosed with a self-correcting form of Cushing’s syndrome, ensuring my health and wellbeing. This revelation was beyond words, pure joy!

As Amy explains, it was through comments about her swollen face that she became conscious of her health issue. This facial fullness, which is sometimes humorously referred to as “moon face,” is a frequent side effect associated with Cushing’s syndrome.

She jokingly expressed her gratitude, referring to the backlash. This is what led her to recognize there was an issue.

She playfully acknowledged the backlash and explained that it was through this experience she discovered something wasn’t right.

Eventually, Amy traced the source of her Cushing’s syndrome to the steroid injections she received during scar treatment.

For nearly 20 years, I’ve cherished discussions about my look, just like many women do. And you’re correct, I currently appear a bit fuller than usual. She added that she has Endometriosis, an autoimmune disease which I encourage everyone to learn more about. Currently, I’m dealing with some medical and hormonal issues, but I’m managing just fine.

As a seasoned lifestyle expert, I’d like to share an intriguing piece of news from the world of entertainment and sports. In the heat of a thrilling wrestling match in July 2025 between the charismatic duo Nikki Bella and Piper Niven, an unexpected incident occurred. After a powerful elbow slam delivered by Piper, my dear friend and former Total Bellas alum, Nikki, disclosed that her breast implant shifted slightly from its original position. This serves as a stark reminder of the physical demands and risks inherent in professional wrestling, even for the most skilled athletes like these two extraordinary women.

In simpler terms, she reassured her sister Bella Garcia by saying, “It’s all right,” promising, “We’ll take care of it eventually.” She also shared with the doctor that after her divorce, she would return to him as soon as possible to ensure their team looked their best. She explained that since these girls (presumably a group they were part of) were going to be active in the future, their appearance needed to be improved because their future activities couldn’t be compromised by their current state.

In 2014, the actress who played a pivotal role in “12 Years a Slave” was diagnosed with fibroids, which are non-cancerous growths that can appear within or near the uterus. This diagnosis came in the same year she received an Oscar for her outstanding performance in that movie.

It took until the year 2025 for her to reveal her diagnosis, sharing on Instagram that she had been silently enduring it for over a decade.

In her words, she expressed that during puberty, the common understanding is that periods come with pain, and this pain is just considered an inherent aspect of femininity. She highlighted that many women endure this issue on their own, as it significantly impacts their lives.

In July 2025, one of the stars from Daisy Jones & The Six revealed that she had been admitted to the hospital due to a hernia – an issue where there’s a tear or weakness in the muscle wall, often occurring in the abdomen or groin region – attributed to wearing restrictive trousers.

She wrote on X, the platform previously known as Twitter, “You don’t post on Twitter anymore,” she noted. “Perhaps it’s worth mentioning that six months ago, my pants were so tight they gave me a hernia, and I’ve been hesitant to share this with you.

In an announcement made in April 2025, the former star of “Beverly Hills, 90210” shared that he was undergoing recovery following a near-burst appendix surgery.

A week ago, Brian mentioned in an Instagram video that he began experiencing abdominal discomfort. This eventually led him to visit the emergency room where he was diagnosed with a near-burst appendix – not fully ruptured yet.

He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”

Adam Devine revealed that the injuries he suffered at age 11, following an accident involving a cement truck, continue to impact his health up until now.

Devine expressed during an episode of the ‘In Depth With Graham Bensinger’ podcast in 2025 that it has been extremely difficult for him, as he has been experiencing constant spasms. He shared that doctors had informed him earlier this year that his condition was potentially fatal.

As a devoted follower, I’ve come to understand that my body experiences periods of discomfort which I liken to the ebb and flow of tides. Sometimes, certain aspects of my body seem somewhat out of alignment or function imperfectly, much like a well-loved but slightly faulty machine.

The former star from Bachelor Nation revealed that he ended up in the hospital, crawling on all fours, because of intense back pain that worsened during a camping trip with a buddy.

Currently, his toes to knees are experiencing an odd tingling sensation, he shared in a 2025 episode of his Trading Secrets podcast. To give you some context, around two to three weeks ago, or perhaps a month prior, he was squatting about 295 pounds. However, now, he’s unable to perform even a single-leg squat without losing balance – it’s as if he’d had a stroke.

But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

Back in March 2025, Gina Kirschenheiter from Real Housewives of Orange County disclosed that her former spouse, Matt Kirschenheiter, had experienced a heart attack. Fortunately, he made it through this challenging situation.

In March 2025, during a New York Knicks basketball match, the prominent figure from “30 Rock” had an unexpected health issue which necessitated his removal from Madison Square Garden in a stretcher.

On the next day, the comedian posted an update on social media, explaining it was actually a bout with food poisoning and he was recovering well.

In February 2025, an actress from the show “Even Stevens” revealed that during a trip for a clay pigeon shooting event to celebrate her husband Brendan Rooney’s birthday, she was unfortunately hit by a shot in her face.

While there was another person present who mistakenly discharged their firearm in a dangerous manner, aiming incorrectly and striking me in the face. In that instant, @thebrendanrooney reacted quickly, evaluated my condition, and swiftly transported me to the hospital. I sustained injuries in five locations, with one being just inches away from my right eye.

The former star of “Kim Possible” added, “Regrettably, a piece became stuck near my eye, and it’s not safe for surgery right now. My doctors are keeping a close watch on me, but I can see fine as of now.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’ve come to deeply appreciate each moment we share on this earth. Just recently, I found myself reflecting on the preciousness of life, a reminder that came unexpectedly yet powerfully.

In the blink of an eye, I was transported back through memories of my daughters’ milestones, cherished moments with my beloved husband, and heartfelt connections with family and friends. It was as if I was given a glimpse into the beautiful tapestry of my life.

This experience has left me with a renewed sense of gratitude and a profound urge to express my love. So, I want to encourage everyone reading this, seize every opportunity you have to embrace those around you. Life can shift in the twinkling of an eye, and it’s these intimate moments that make our journey worthwhile.

So let us not forget to hug the people who enrich our lives every chance we get. Cherish each moment, for life’s preciousness lies not just in its longevity, but in the love-filled memories we create along the way.

In this instance, Amy Schumer is grateful for the internet’s role in helping her uncover the cause of a health issue she was experiencing. After receiving comments from doctors about her appearance during a January 2025 episode of Call Her Daddy, they suggested she might have Cushing syndrome due to elevated cortisol levels or steroid injections. Upon realizing she had been getting such injections after surgeries like a breast reduction and C-section, Amy was diagnosed with Cushing syndrome. Fortunately, it was the type that would resolve on its own, and she shared her relief about her health in a February 2024 News Not Noise newsletter.

In a game played in December 2024, an AHL player got hurt when another player’s skate accidentally sliced him open. He needed 25 stitches to close the wound. After he had fully recovered, his father, who is the general manager of the New Jersey Devils named Tom Fitzgerald, expressed his gratitude to ESPN by saying, “We consider ourselves fortunate. I wouldn’t wish that experience on any parent.

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber had a terrifying incident during breakfast with husband Justin Bieber when she began experiencing symptoms similar to a stroke. Recounting the event on YouTube a month later, Hailey shared that she didn’t respond when Justin asked if she was okay and couldn’t speak or form sentences as her right side of the face drooped. After regaining control over her speech, she visited the hospital for a check-up.

The medical tests revealed that Hailey had experienced a small blood clot in her brain, known as a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA). Further examination at the University of California, Los Angeles, found that she had a hole in her heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). Hailey explained that the blood clot had moved into her heart, escaped through the hole, and reached her brain, leading to the TIA.

Following a successful PFO closure procedure, Hailey reported feeling well.

In the same year as Hailey’s health crisis, Justin also faced a similar ordeal. Specifically, in June 2022, the singer known for “Baby” revealed his diagnosis with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which led to temporary paralysis of parts of his face and necessitated the cancellation of the rest of his Justice World Tour.

Explaining the condition on Instagram at the time, Justin said, “This virus attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves, causing paralysis in this side of my face.” As viewers could see, his eye was not blinking, he couldn’t smile from one side of his face, and his nostril would not move, indicating full paralysis on that side. He also shared that it became progressively harder for him to eat.

However, with time, the paralysis subsided. Hailey commented on a June 2022 episode of Good Morning America, saying, “He’s doing really well,” and later added, “He’s feeling a lot better. It was just a very scary and random situation, but he’ll be completely okay.” She also expressed her gratitude that Justin is fine.

Jamie Foxx, the Academy Award winner, initially chose not to disclose the details of his hospitalization in April 2023. However, during his 2024 Netflix special “What Had Happened Was…”, he shared his experience. In Atlanta, he complained of a severe headache and asked for an aspirin, but before he could get it, he fainted and lost consciousness for 20 days.

Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister Deidra Dixon took him to the hospital. There, they discovered that he had suffered a brain bleed which led to a stroke. After undergoing surgery on the 20th day, Foxx woke up in a wheelchair on May 4th unable to walk. He then traveled to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy.

“I just want everyone to know how much I appreciate your prayers,” he said, “because I truly needed them.

Actress Emilia Clarke faced a life-threatening health crisis while working on “Game of Thrones.” In 2019, she penned an essay in The New Yorker titled “A Battle for My Life.” At the gym, she recounted suffering from severe headaches that led to vomiting and worsening pain. She was rushed to the hospital where doctors discovered a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a type of stroke caused by brain bleeding.

Emilia underwent immediate surgery to repair the aneurysm, describing the pain as excruciating. During her recovery, she experienced aphasia and spoke incoherently. However, after a week, her speech returned, and she was discharged from the hospital after a month.

Unfortunately, during a 2013 brain scan, Emilia learned that the growth had doubled in size, requiring another surgery. “When they woke me, I was screaming in pain,” she wrote. “The procedure had failed. I had a massive bleed and the doctors made it clear that my chances of survival were critical if they didn’t operate again.”

Fortunately, Emilia is now reportedly in perfect health.

Snoop Dogg’s daughter, Cori Broadus, expresses her gratitude towards her family following a severe stroke in January 2024. As she shared the news with TopMob News correspondent Will Marfuggi in December 2024, she recalled that everyone rushed to help after she sent them a picture of herself and a text about the stroke.

Due to additional health issues related to lupus, Cori’s stay at the hospital extended beyond her initial expectations. She explained, “I could have gone home after my stroke, but my lupus wasn’t doing well. My kidneys were failing, and there was a lot happening.”

Now, Cori is recovering and feeling better. She shared, “I’m doing great now. I just had to work on regaining some motor skills, but other than that, I was okay.

In her twenties, the health of actress Shailene Woodley was far from smooth. She experienced such severe health issues that she lost some of her hearing, struggled to walk for extended periods without needing long rests, and found almost every food intolerable for her stomach. This combined with various diagnoses and conflicting advice from different doctors left her in a state of confusion.

To find answers, Shailene-who has a background in holistic healing-decided to consult both traditional medical professionals and independent healers. It was an arduous journey that took a decade. During this time, she also grappled with various physical discomforts, which led to fear of food, body dysmorphia, identity confusion, and feelings of insecurity within her own body.

After addressing both her physical and mental health concerns, Shailene is now much healthier and happier. She stated that this challenging journey eventually resolved itself physically, and she can proudly say that she’s in good health today.
