At WWE SummerSlam, John Cena seemed to rewind time as he put on a memorable performance against Cody Rhodes for the top WWE title. Although he didn’t come out victorious, his display was exceptional, and the unexpected announcement of Brock Lesnar as his impending opponent added more excitement. With just a few performances left before his retirement tour concludes, Cena marked another one off tonight’s WWE SmackDown. In addition to disclosing the remaining dates, he also unveiled that his next competitor wouldn’t be Lesnar after all.
John Cena stormed into the ring, igniting the audience’s excitement, for they were already buzzing with anticipation. After giving the fans a brief taste of their own hype, Cena opened up about his impending retirement and upcoming matches in WWE. He shared, “Take my word, it doesn’t last forever,” which prompted the crowd to erupt with chants of “Thank You, Cena.
The Final Run
For approximately two decades, this place has been my regular spot. I’ve experienced countless cherished moments within these walls. Frankly, I appreciate each one of you. You’re aware that tonight marks the start of my final eleven performances here. As I reflect on this, I feel a growing sense of apprehension, and I wanted to express my gratitude for that.
Originally, it was thought that John Cena had approximately 9 more performances left, not counting tonight’s show. Fortunately, Cena clarified the exact number, which turned out to be 11, and these will span several matches in the coming months. One of those upcoming matches was teased during tonight’s segment, but surprisingly, it won’t be Lesnar who faces Cena on his final tour.
In the promo, Cena eventually addressed Lesnar, but first, he shared some personal thoughts. He confessed, “I feel compelled to delve into this for a moment since it’s crucial that I express my feelings honestly. I fear that no matter how hard I try within the given time frame, I may not meet expectations and disappoint you all. I must also acknowledge that after I leave and WWE continues its journey, there’s a chance you might forget about me.” Cena continued, “My mind is filled with apprehensions, even to the point where I fear Brock Lesnar himself. I can’t fathom a scenario where I would voluntarily select Brock Lesnar as an adversary, but given our history, you know I wouldn’t back down from him.
Does fear grip me? Indeed! It seems Brock Lensar has found himself in a predicament similar to John Cena’s. And it appears every WWE superstar is now facing a significant challenge reminiscent of John Cena’s. Time is running out, and if you watched SummerSlam, you’d know I won’t back down without a battle. If anyone dares to challenge me, be prepared for a fight. And to any who dare come down the aisle to confront the last true Champion, remember that I intend to go down fighting with all guns blazing.
Cena’s Actual Next Opponent
When the music of Logan Paul played, there was a wave of boos from the crowd. John, in a moment, pleaded with his audience, saying, “John, John, John, stop for a minute, listen to me. John, whatever this is, whoever you are now, John, it makes me feel ill. I truly respected you, John, but now I barely recognize you. Montreal, what’s your complaint? At least Logan Paul never changed.
You’re not as recognized as I am. The crowd here doesn’t know you like they know me. From the start, I’ve been truthful and authentic. Regardless of your feelings, even Cena acknowledged that Logan Paul excels in WWE compared to any other professional wrestler, and that includes yourself.
Cena admitted to making the statement initially, but he also provided additional insight, stating, “Wait a minute, he could very well be correct. Yes, I said that. And I’d also like to mention that Logan Paul is the most ignorant individual I’ve ever encountered.
How about this John? I want one!” Cena found this appealing, and later Paul announced that the match would not occur in their current location, but instead in Paris.
Initially, Drew McIntyre sprang an attack on John Cena, followed by a celebration alongside Paul. However, Cody Rhodes intervened to prevent further action against McIntyre. Later, Cena declared his acceptance of Paul’s challenge for the Clash in Paris event. He also hinted at having a partner, suggesting that he might team up with Rhodes. In the end, Cena announced his partnership with Rhodes, planning to face off against McIntyre and Paul in the main event of tonight’s SmackDown.
