Lilo & Stitch Stars Reveal Which Characters They Want to See in the Disney Sequel

In the movie “Lilo & Stitch 2”, it’s revealed that the family, or ohana, is growing larger. On June’s special day known as 626 Day, Disney officially announced they were working on a sequel to their live-action remake of the 2002 animated film. This movie has earned an impressive $1.02 billion worldwide, with Maia Kealoha and Sydney Elizebeth Agudong returning as Lilo and Nani Pelekai. The upcoming sequel could potentially introduce some of the hundreds of other experiments developed by Dr. Jumba Jookiba, played by Zach Galifianakis.

In a conversation with ComicBook, Kealoha expressed her desire for two additional characters in the sequel to her blockbuster film debut, which grossed billions at the box office. However, there’s a condition – these new characters must be alien, similar to those seen in the animated direct-to-video sequels.

624, also known as Angel (or Stitch’s buddy, Boojiboo), first appeared in “Lilo & Stitch: The Series,” and it was “Stitch! The Movie” that introduced Reuben, a character who loves sandwiches, as Stitch’s cousin. Lastly, the movie “Leroy & Stitch” presented Leroy, Stitch’s wicked counterpart with all-red fur.

Kealoha mentioned he’s eager to find out how they’ll portray ‘Angel,’ along with the peculiar alien who has a fondness for sandwiches,” or simply, “Kealoha expressed his excitement about seeing both Angel and the sandwich-loving alien.

Following the conclusion of Lilo & Stitch, where Nani moved to San Diego for college, Lilo was left under the guardianship of Tūtū and her grandson David, Agudong eagerly anticipates reuniting with the Earth-bound group consisting of alien-friendly CIA Agent Cobra Bubbles and social worker Mrs. Kekoa, who was portrayed by Tia Carrere in the 2002 animated film and also voiced Nani.

I can’t wait to watch more of the family unite on screen, especially Courtney B. Vance as Cobra Bubbles, Tutu, and Mrs. Kekoa. I’m looking forward to seeing all these characters interact. We’ve left a hint that Nani and David’s relationship isn’t over, so we can expect more of that in the sequel. It was enjoyable working on this project, and I’m eager to see how we develop their love story further.”

(Paraphrased from Agudong’s original statement to make it easier for readers to understand while retaining its meaning.)

It’s undecided at this time whether characters like Captain Gantu, who was tasked with capturing Stitch in the original animated series but wasn’t featured in the remake, or Dr. Hämsterviel, the villainous character from the Lilo & Stitch: The Series, might appear in the upcoming sequel. However, Chris Sanders, who was a co-writer and co-director of the original Lilo & Stitch and also voiced the lovable alien, is writing the sequel.

The producer Jonathan Eirich suggested that the story could develop in an innovative and entertaining manner, with numerous elements to draw inspiration from. He noted Easter eggs hinting at Angel, Reuben, and Experiment 627 (Stitch’s evil counterpart), stating there are various characters and a vast universe to explore, which is intriguing, but the direction remains uncertain.

Lilo & Stitch is now available to rent or own on digital and is streaming Sept. 3 on Disney+.
