DC Brings Two Animated Icons Together for an Exciting New Series

As a devoted DC fan, I’m thrilled to share some exhilarating news about a forthcoming collaboration that’s bound to leave us all breathless. Two iconic figures of the DC animated universe are teaming up to safeguard our world from impending extinction. Choosing a favorite DC animated series has always been a daunting task, given the stellar lineup that includes the groundbreaking Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited, Young Justice, and many more. However, two particular animated shows have carved a unique niche in the fandom for their innovative portrayals of the DC Universe.

These beloved cartoons have seen their stars collaborate before, but this time around they’re joining forces for an epic, futuristic tale that promises to redefine storytelling within the DC universe. The anticipation is palpable!

DC has unveiled “Batman/Static: Beyond”, a six-issue limited series from writer Evan Narcisse and artist Nikolas Draper-Ivey. This story, published under the DC Elseworlds label, brings together two of DC’s most vibrant characters – Terry McGinnis (Batman Beyond) and Virgil Hawkins (Static) – for a mission with far-reaching consequences that could alter Earth’s position in the universe.

Batman Beyond and Static Shock Team-Up to Save DC’s Future

In a future setting, Terry McGinnis took center stage in the show known as “Batman Beyond,” which spanned three seasons. This tale was set after Bruce Wayne had hung up his Batman cape. An accidental meeting with Bruce led Terry to wear an advanced suit and carry on the legacy as Batman Beyond. Meanwhile, Virgil Hawkins shone in “Static Shock,” a series that lasted four seasons and introduced an African-American hero as its main character. Both characters, Batman Beyond and Static, made appearances in “Justice League Unlimited” as part of Justice League Beyond.

In the series titled “Batman/Static: Beyond“, Batman Beyond continues his vigil on the illuminated streets of future Gotham, while Static spearheads technological advancements by introducing the Q-Wave Energy Grid. As Earth prepares to join a potent interstellar coalition known as the Cooperative, the Justice League Beyond anticipates ushering in an era of harmony. However, when a shadowy figure initiates a planet-wide power outage, the fate of our world teeters on the edge. With technology failing and unrest brewing, Static and Batman Beyond must form an unconventional partnership to restore order before it’s too late.

Evan Narcisse expressed his enjoyment of the intriguing relationship between Nik, Static, and Batman in the ‘Milestone 30th Anniversary Special’, particularly as these characters initially joined forces. He also mentioned that an intriguing aspect of this new project has been delving into the distinct differences between Terry and Virgil.

As a passionate movie-lover, let me share my thoughts on a captivating tale that’s a powerful critique of our growing dependence on technology. We’ve reached a stage where we use our watches to find our phones, and our phones to connect with the world around us. Instead of relying on our own memories, we now rely on technology to store our recollections for us. This shift towards technological reliance deeply troubles me. I fear that if, in an instant, all these advancements were to disappear – as they might due to our current pace – humanity would be significantly disadvantaged.

Narcisse commented, “Static was once a teenage hero who later assumed greater responsibility for his city and beyond, while Terry is still figuring out how to do the same in his unique style. Currently a high school student, Terry carries the burden of the Batman identity and its associated expectations. On the other hand, Virgil, as an adult member of the Justice League, is at a different stage in his journey, driven by his adolescence in Dakota where systemic injustice significantly impacted his hometown. Their methods for creating a safer, more equitable world differ greatly. This disparity sets the stage for the main question they must address: can they learn to collaborate effectively during a critical time when everything they once knew is in disarray? The creative team aims to explore this dilemma in Batman/Static: Beyond, a story where intense emotions clash against the backdrop of an unpredictable future.
