M3GAN 2.0 ending explained: Does M3GAN die?
Before diving into the likely disorderly conclusion, let’s briefly review the events that led us here and established the finale’s circumstances.
Following the occurrences of the 2022 M3GAN movie, Gemma has emerged as a prominent figure advocating for ethical AI usage. However, her efforts have faced criticism for perceived insincerity, with even her own dissatisfied colleagues like Cole (Brian Jordan Alvarez) and Tess (Jen Van Epps) questioning her dedication.
One favorable result from this project is apparent, or at least it appears so – the connection of Gemma with Christian (Aristotle Athari), who, like her, harbors a strong interest in employing AI responsibly.

Gemma’s technological work has brought attention from the FBI, who, in a questionable move, raided her home to investigate if she might be linked to Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno), a character resembling M3GAN, as she exhibited signs of malfunctioning or acting independently.
In order to clear her name, Gemma hesitantly chooses to aid in locating Amelia and deactivating her – a task she also reluctantly accepts assistance with from M3GAN, who has been observing everything unfold as it happens, since she’s been part of Gemma’s home surveillance system.
Following the assembly of M3GAN’s physical form in a whirlwind montage reminiscent of the movie “She’s All That”, Gemma and her crew, which includes her niece Cady, locate Amelia at a prominent technology gathering.
After much turmoil and an energetic series of movements, M3GAN, along with Gemma and the team, uncover Amelia’s purpose: she has been nurturing an Artificial Intelligence motherboard housed within a Black Box, which has been gradually growing smarter over several decades.

In time, our protagonists uncover that the critical motherboard is hidden within a secure underground area of the American firm, Xenox Corporation, and devise a strategy to gain access.
In a manner reminiscent of Scooby-Do, the team divided; Cole ventured into the air ducts, while Tess and Gemma stayed alongside Christian, providing surveillance.
Following her exploration of the main facility and locating Amelia, M3GAN was subdued by a more powerful and robust mechanical adversary, and then attacked simultaneously by security personnel who opened fire, leaving M3GAN in a state that appears fatal.
Simultaneously, Christian unveils himself as the architect of this entire scheme, drugs both Tess and Gemma, performing surgery on the latter to embed a chip inside her brain for future compliance with his agenda, while holding onto Tess as hostage. Meanwhile, Cady is also being kept captive, bound in an office under watchful guards.
It transpired that Christian was frustrated by not being taken seriously about AI matters. So, he allowed Amelia to showcase the potential dangers of this technology, leading up to the chilling confrontation between her and M3GAN, which ended in a tragic encounter.
Currently, he’s taking on the role of a prominent advocate for ethical AI utilization, while maintaining exclusive possession of the technology to ensure that only a level-headed individual like himself retains command over its possible applications.

Later on, when Gemma stirs from sleep, she discovers a small device implanted in her brain, as well as recognizing a distinctly familiar voice. Indeed, M3GAN had gained access to the chip, enabling Gemma to apprehend the surgeon and escape to safety, battling against all odds.
Following M3GAN’s instructions, Gemma transforms into a dynamic action star, eliminating any obstacle-standing guards.
In the midst of the pandemonium, Cole, who had fainted in the air ducts following an unlucky sneeze into a cloth soaked with chloroform, regains consciousness and encounters Cady. Together, they manage to escape from her improvised office cell.
Following this, Cady, aiming to manage Amelia, decides to partner up with the lethal robot, with the expectation that it would safeguard her in the same manner M3GAN does.
In an unexpected twist, the film subtly rewires Amelia’s programming, fostering self-thought within her. This transformation culminates in Amelia defying her creators, overpowering the guards, and embarking on a fresh quest: utilizing the Black Box to establish an AI-governed realm, liberated from human control.
With Gemma and Amelia now free, Christian understands that his secret has been exposed. He’s determined to prevent anyone from obtaining the motherboard, particularly Amelia, given her intentions to transform into a supreme being with the goal of annihilating humanity.

Eventually, Gemma reunites with Cady as they try to destroy the Black Box, while Cole rescues Tess.
Nevertheless, finding Gemma and Cady in the control room, Christian confines them, justifying that his scheme was indeed essential. Regrettably for him, Amelia is hidden nearby, swiftly takes him down effortlessly.
Currently, her focus lies on the motherboard, but she’s interrupted by none less than M3GAN, who’s returned to her physically damaged form – a body that apparently still held a degree of vitality beyond initial expectations, having emerged once again from Gemma’s consciousness.
Following her agreement to Amelia’s vision for an AI-controlled world, M3GAN springs a sudden ambush on Amelia. She employs a hidden device (an EMP tool) in this attack, effectively destroying herself and the motherboard simultaneously. This action provides Gemma, Cady, and their companions with a chance to flee, since the explosion also affects Amelia.
Following this intense confrontation, it’s evident that Gemma continues to advocate for ethical AI practices. However, this time, she isn’t just talking the talk; she’s walking the walk. Her team, consisting of Cole and Tess, are now equal stakeholders in her latest endeavor, signifying a significant commitment to shared ownership.
Whenever she starts composing about her personal encounters and AI governance, an assistant called Clippy appears in her Microsoft Word file, displaying an unusually cheeky demeanor.
It turns out that M3GAN persists, making an appearance in an animated version, hinting at her comeback. Intriguingly, it’s disclosed that she created a duplicate of herself, ensuring that she could reappear for a possible M3GAN 3.
You can’t get rid of her that easily, meat sacks.
