After completing filming for the last season of “The Boys”, Antony Starr has been pondering over his role as Homelander. Two days ago, he posted on Instagram about his experiences playing this complex character, accompanied by a collection of photos – a blend of backstage snaps and promotional shots. Despite finishing work some time back, he chose to wait before bidding farewell to the successful comic book adaptation and the intriguing character he portrayed, Homelander. “I’ve been waiting a bit to let things settle and attempt to comprehend the end of this series.
In his recent Instagram post, Starr expresses that articulating the impact of the show on him is challenging. He admires the incredible journey, all the life changes and personal growth, and praises the team as exceptional. Over the past six years, he considers it the pinnacle of his career, despite unexpected events like Covid and strikes. However, with the exception of those two instances, the show never faltered in its mission to leave a lasting impression on television, unique in its genre.
As a dedicated cinephile, I’ve got to say that “The Boys” has truly been a blockbuster hit for Amazon since it first graced our screens back in July 2019. Adapted from the comic book series with the same name, this show offers a witty and at times gruesome twist on traditional superhero tales, with Homelander’s character often leading the charge as we push the genre’s limits. “The Boys” has consistently topped the charts for Amazon’s streaming service, leaving an indelible mark not just on comic book adaptations but also on the burgeoning careers of its talented cast members. Despite the series nearing its conclusion, its influence is undeniable.
Wrapping up filming, all I can truly express is gratitude. To the fantastic Canadian crew who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. The exceptional production team who brought our vision to life. The exceptionally talented cast who breathed life into their characters, making every scene a masterpiece. A big thank you to Amazon and Sony for taking a risk on this unique project and casting me, it’s been an unforgettable experience. And lastly, a heartfelt appreciation to everyone else who contributed in any capacity, big or small, to this intricate, twisted, flavorful series. I adore this show, and the character I played in it. I will deeply miss the journey of coming to set every day, not knowing where our creative adventure would lead us but always knowing we’d have a great time and be creatively fulfilled beyond measure.
Starr went on to describe Homelander as an “intricate personality,” one that offered ample room for exploration and testing limits in a manner the actor found surprising. Wrapping up his message, he expressed heartfelt appreciation towards Eric Kripke, his collaborator in crafting this complex character. He stated, “We’ve brought a monster to life, sir. I will miss both him and you as we move on to our final season. Until then, I look forward to seeing you again. Although this creative journey is coming to an end, I can’t help but feel nostalgic, my friend.
Homelander, a member of The Seven, is the strongest and morally twisted character among them. Known for his golden boy image within the team, he frequently engages in reprehensible actions, both concealed and exposed. In truth, Homelander falls far short of being a good person; he’s often manipulative and unstable. Despite the numerous flaws in his character, Charlie Hogan delivers an outstanding performance as Homelander in each season of The Boys, with viewers and critics frequently praising him for portraying the troubled “hero” on screen.
Currently, the fifth and concluding season of “The Boys” doesn’t have a specific release date yet, but it’s anticipated to debut on Prime Video sometime in the following year. In the meantime, fans can revisit the first four seasons and reminisce about Starr’s chilling portrayal as Homelander before he makes his grand return for the final season.
