Sarah Michelle Gellar, a celebrated actress for many years now, has made her mark in both television and film. She is most renowned for playing the lead role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (available on Hulu). This series remains my all-time favorite, and it’s been thrilling to watch Sarah Michelle Gellar (SMG) experience a resurgence of success with intriguing projects such as Dexter: Original Sin and the Buffy reboot pilot. Recently, she also made an appearance in the latest version of I Know What You Did Last Summer, but another iconic character from her past that I’m eager to see return is Cici Cooper from Scream 2.
As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I can’t help but marvel at Sarah Michelle Gellar’s penchant for revisiting her iconic horror characters. Whether it’s resurrecting Helen Shivers in IKWYDLS or filming fresh scenes as Buffy Summers, her knack for stepping back into her most memorable roles is truly captivating. Given that Scream 7 has already started production in January, it feels like the ideal moment for a surprise appearance as Cici, don’t you think?
Scream 7 Is Already Bringing A Ton Of Legacy Characters Back.
Given that Cici Cooper, portrayed by SMG, met her end in “Scream 2” (currently available on Max), it might seem like her screen time had concluded. However, the latest entries in the horror series have rewritten the rules, with Skeet Ulrich resurfacing as a spectral Billy Loomis. This paves the way for such comebacks, a trend that is being continued in the forthcoming “Scream 7”.

As a dedicated cinephile, I’m excitedly waiting for the upcoming “Scream 7,” although details are scarce at the moment. What we do know is that legendary director Kevin Williamson is resurrecting a multitude of iconic characters from the franchise. Among those confirmed so far, which has left fans like me in a state of bewildered joy, are Matthew Lillard reprising his role as Stu Macher (the Ghostface) and Scott Foley as Roman Bridger. What’s even more intriguing is that David Arquette will make a return to the series, despite Dewey Riley’s demise in 2022’s “Scream.” This is particularly electrifying because “Scream VI” was the only movie that didn’t feature his character physically. Can’t wait to see how it all unfolds!
Given that numerous deceased characters are expected in the upcoming slasher, it makes sense that Cici might make an appearance as well. Regrettably, Sarah Michelle Gellar revealed she didn’t receive an invitation, despite expressing enthusiasm for participating. However, since we’ve recently dealt with her false claims about appearing again in I Know What You Did Last Summer, it may be wise to approach her statements with a bit of skepticism. (Aged 48, she might be an ‘icon’.)

Sarah Michelle Gellar’s thrilling chase scene as Cici in “Scream 2” is widely regarded as one of the film’s standout moments, even though she wasn’t the main character in the much-anticipated sequel. Similarly, her character’s death in “I Know What You Did Last Summer” is also highly praised, which is why Sarah Michelle Gellar has earned the title of a scream queen for all time. With this in mind, it seems fitting that she and other original characters are set to return in “Scream 7”. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this becomes a reality!
The seventh installment of “Scream” is tentatively scheduled for a theater release on February 27th, 2026, within the upcoming movie lineup. Fans can only anticipate whether additional unexpected appearances will be featured in the film and if Hulu decides to greenlight the revival of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” as a series.
