Robert Pattinson’s Batman Meeting DCU’s Man of Steel Gets Positive Update From Superman Creative

Due to the significant and profitable success of James Gunn’s Superman, the DC Universe franchise is thriving, marking a thrilling new chapter for adaptations of DC Comics. As this interconnected universe takes form, many fans are eagerly anticipating encounters between David Corenswet’s Man of Steel and other prominent heroes, such as Batman and Wonder Woman from the DC Trinity. With plans being made for the DCU’s Batman, there’s already an established film version of Batman ( portrayed by Robert Pattinson) that fans hope will join the action. Notably, a key creative figure from Superman is also part of this group.

During an interaction with Screen Rant, Superman’s visual effects supervisor Guy Williams expressed his view that Robert Pattinson’s Batman and Nicholas Corenswet’s Superman could potentially appear together on screen. He stated, “I would say yes. It’s essential to comprehend that directors are exceptionally creative individuals. Their role is to transform an idea that barely makes sense in your mind into a two-hour movie. I am certain that there are numerous directors who can devise a way to intertwine these two characters effectively.

He further added, “It’s similar to questioning if ‘Rogue One’ aligns with the universe of the classic ‘Star Wars’. The reason being is that ‘Rogue One’ carried a much darker tone compared to the original Star Wars trilogy.

Could Robert Pattinson’s Batman Join the DCU?

After James Gunn became co-head of DC Studios, he’s made it clear that Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of Batman, featured in Matt Reeves’ Batman: An Epic Crime Saga, will remain distinct from the main DC Universe continuity. Gunn is eager to establish an Elseworlds series, akin to the comics that offer creators freedom to create standalone stories independent of established lore. Pattinson’s Batman is set to reappear in The Batman Part II, with filming scheduled to start next spring and the movie slated for release in October 2027.

Moving forward, Reeves’ crime-focused series progresses, while DC Studios works on the Batman movie titled “The Brave and the Bold.” This film will delve into an older Bruce Wayne’s bond with his son, Damian. As of now, there’s no set release date for “The Brave and the Bold,” but Gunn has expressed a desire to avoid a simultaneous release in the same year as “The Batman Part II.” If his preference is followed, audiences won’t see “The Brave and the Bold” on the big screen before 2028 at the earliest.

Gunn acknowledges that the DCU’s Batman presents a challenge he must address, as it’s crucial to ensure “The Brave and the Bold” maintains its own identity amidst Reeves’ ongoing series. On paper, these two versions of Batman seem distinct: one focuses on a young Batman in his early crime-fighting years while the other centers around a seasoned Batman and his team. However, this Elseworlds idea is relatively uncharted territory – having two concurrent high-profile live-action film series about the same character could potentially confuse casual viewers unfamiliar with DC Studios’ complexities.

From a practical standpoint, incorporating Robert Pattinson’s Batman into the DC Universe might be more logical than introducing another independent Dark Knight. However, this approach could potentially strain the relationship between Reeves and DC, who seemed keen on keeping their Batman distinct from other heroes. Following the success of ‘The Batman’ and ‘The Penguin’, it would be unfortunate if Reeves were to leave DC due to shared universe issues (which would also impact DC Studios’ reputation as a hub for talented filmmakers). Moreover, ‘The Brave and the Bold’ presents an exciting opportunity to reinterpret Batman in ways not seen in films for a long time, offering a unique twist on the original material. For now, we can trust James Gunn to devise a strategy, but the prospect of a Pattinson/Corenswet crossover is intriguing and has some people speculating about its potential.
