Oh, to be a paparazzi drone hovering over Venice this weekend.

Instead of being captivated by the canals or charming architecture rich in Italian history, it’s all about capturing the sensational scene of the century – the extravagant wedding estimated at $20 million: that of Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s founder, and Lauren Sanchez.

Admittedly, there’s a part of me that’s in awe of the glamour, wealth, and fashion – especially Lauren’s extravagant golden corset – yet another side of me can’t help but chuckle at how much of a spectacle it all seems.

And that’s not my turn of phrase either. Furious locals are said to be calling it ‘il circo’.

Instead of everyone else frantically searching online about surviving World War III, an eccentric billionaire bookstore owner (who just so happens to be the third wealthiest person on Earth) and his spacefaring cowgirl bride are exchanging wedding vows in a ceremony that’s so extravagantly out-of-touch, it seems more like performance art than a traditional wedding.

If you follow my articles, you’ll realize that I have a fondness for Lauren. She’s bold, she’s fierce, and at 55 years old, she exudes an extraordinary charm that I find captivating. Despite her age, she appears to be a kind-hearted individual, given Jeff’s affection for her. However, this ‘circus’ of hers? Oh, Lauren, not even your most ardent supporter, myself included, can appreciate it.

Let’s kick things off at the foam party – it’s not every day you get to dance and play in bubbly water, lathered with Fairy liquid. As for the invitations, some people thought they were made by a student in grade six, using Canva for a school project.

Although the attendees seem star-studded, with names like Kim Kardashian and eligible bachelor Orlando Bloom on the list, it’s one gentleman, Patrick Whitesell, who has stolen the show and, truth be told, surpassed the extravagance of the entire event.

You might not recall him, given his preference for staying away from the limelight. Once upon a time, he was married to Lauren, but that was before Jeff spotted her and declared, “She belongs to me.

Currently, 60-year-old Pat enjoys spending time at his luxurious $57 million Bel-Air estate, distancing himself from foam parties, wrinkled linen shirts, and loafers that have only been worn on the decks of expensive superyachts.

Yet the most impressive thing about Pat is his stunning Australian wife, Pia Whitesell.

In the past, she went by the name Pia Miller, being married to a popular local football player. It’s likely that she is one of the most stunning women hailing from the Southern Hemisphere.

Prior to focusing on Pia at age 41, Pat had already been married to Lauren. One fateful day, he committed a newcomer’s mistake by presenting his wife to a friend who held substantial wealth compared to him – Jeff. This seemingly innocuous introduction ultimately led to the demise of their marriage.

Poor Patrick, despite his riches and achievements, ended up being the center of gossip when Lauren and Jeff’s affair became public knowledge, making him appear as conspicuous as a prominently displayed radish in the newspaper headlines.

In simple terms, she shared a familiar quote from the movie “The Castle” with her fellow Australians back home. This quote was spoken by a character appreciating the scenic view from his vacation trailer, seemingly unbothered by the nearby power lines and airport noise.

The meaning was clear: Forget the noise. We’re perfectly happy right here. 

Well played, Pia. I can just picture Patrick out of shot, sipping a martini next to you.

The Whitesells pulled off a clever, subtle, and impeccably timed move. Kudos to them! If we were playing a game (and sometimes, love does feel like one), they’ve certainly earned the top spot.

In my own words, I prefer a subtle and understated approach rather than making a grand spectacle. Instead of boisterous headlines or flashy displays of wealth, I choose a quiet, slightly self-satisfied silence that speaks volumes to the world: “Leave the chaos behind, for us, there will be tranquility.

Patrick opted for joy instead of resentment, which, in truth, is an exceptional form of retaliation. To put it another way, he managed to walk down the aisle ahead of his former spouse, as he tied the knot with Pia in 2021.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I find myself cheering for Lauren and Jeff on their special wedding weekend. While the theme might not be my personal cup of tea, it’s all about celebrating love, isn’t it? Here’s to wishing them a delightful cake, a safe bubble bath adventure, and of course, hoping that the corset fits comfortably without any discomfort. May their journey as a couple be filled with joy and harmony!
