Back in June, it was announced that the detective couple Tommy and Tuppence from Agatha Christie would make a comeback on television screens. Now, BritBox has disclosed who will be portraying the leading characters.
In the upcoming six-part adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novels and short stories, Antonia Thomas takes on the role of Tuppence, while Josh Dylan steps into the character of Tommy.
Tuppence, a dynamic actress and a woman who never backs down, is characterized as someone who refuses to accept ‘no’. On the other hand, Tommy, a detail-oriented and charismatic author of crime novels, had lost his zest but regained it when the whirlwind that is Tuppence reappeared in his life.
Apart from being already thrilling, it’s additionally noteworthy that Agatha Christie’s Tommy & Tuppence series has secured Imelda Staunton for the portrayal of the formidable Aunt Ada, a former private investigator who has retired.
Viewers might be familiar with Thomas, as she first gained prominence through her groundbreaking character in Channel 4’s series “Misfits.” Later, she moved on to play significant roles in the American medical drama “The Good Doctor” and the latest comedic offering on Apple TV+ titled “Still Up.
Dylan is most recognized for portraying Young Bill in the film “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again”, along with roles in “The Little Stranger”, “The Buccaneers”, and the BBC version of “Noughts & Crosses”.

Without a doubt, Staunton is a highly revered actor from Britain, renowned for his exceptional stage performances and memorable film roles such as Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter series, Aunt Lucy in the Paddington films, and more recently, Queen Elizabeth II in Netflix’s The Crown.
Agatha Christie’s Tommy & Tuppence is characterized as a modern take on the original series, distinguishing it from “Partners in Crime,” the 2015 adaptation broadcasted by BBC One, where David Walliams and Jessica Raine portrayed the main characters.

Tommy and Tuppence make an extraordinary detective team throughout their story. Their romantic relationship ebbs and flows, yet they always manage to solve captivating, enjoyable mysteries together.
Phoebe Eclair-Powell, a renowned playwright, has been appointed as both the writer and executive producer for Agatha Christie’s Tommy & Tuppence series. This marks her first venture into television drama production. Fergus O’Brien (known for Happy Valley and The Tourist) and Ellie Heydon (famous for Outrageous and Trying) are scheduled to direct the first four episodes and the subsequent six episodes respectively.
Previously, Eclair-Powell had expressed that working on the drama was a fulfillment of a long-held dream. Moreover, he mentioned that Christie’s detective duo were not only witty and sharp but also eager to unravel numerous murders. He pondered if they should be more than just partners in crime.
