Although Supermassive Games’ “Directive 8020” has been pushed back to 2026, the studio recently showcased extensive new gameplay at Gamescom. This new footage focuses on the Prologue, where characters Carter and Simms explore the Cassiopeia’s hull to investigate a sudden rupture. Here’s a peek at it below.
The immediate impact of the latest Turning Points unfolds right away, as the method chosen to address the rupture becomes a crucial moment in the storyline that will be revisited later. As our pair steps out onto the ship’s exterior, they encounter the rupture, narrowly avoiding an alien organism attached to one of its fragments. However, during their return journey, Simms is inexplicably propelled out into space.
Despite returning, Carter was unable to save her, leading Simms to seemingly disappear into the unknown. Upon entering the ship, however, Carter found himself pursued by her, wielding an electric baton in a game of hide-and-seek. Eventually, she escaped and reported the incident to the crew, but ultimately met with his own tragic end.
It’s possible that the “Simms” resembling another character is a shape-shifting entity causing uncertainty among the crew. Whether Carter’s demise affects their voyage and if there’s hope to rescue him are questions yet to be answered. Meanwhile, expect “Directive 8020” on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC; further updates will be shared in the upcoming months.
