In 2026, IllFonic and Gun Media are set to launch a new Halloween-themed game, available on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. While specifics are still scarce, we do know that the game will be set in 1978, mirroring the original film. One aspect of the Halloween series often overlooked is its robust cast of characters, not just limited to Michael Myers. In the first trailer for the game, it’s been hinted that one such character will make a comeback alongside the infamous antagonist.
The initial trailer for “Halloween” showcases a monologue by Doctor Samuel Loomis, who is a crucial figure not just in the original movie, but also in numerous sequels. Notably, actor Donald Pleasance portrayed Doctor Loomis until his passing in 1995 during the filming of “Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers”. Despite his departure 30 years ago, his influence on the franchise remains palpable. In an interview with ComicBook, design director Jordan Mathewson disclosed how Loomis will reappear in the game.
In our project, we chose the voice actor who appeared both in the 2018 film and the pinball machine. Since Donald Pleasance, the original Loomis actor, has passed away, this new actor represents a post-Pleasance version of the character. We’re fortunate to be collaborating with the Pleasance family, and we’ve been given permission to use his likeness. Our goal is to portray him authentically as the unstable character he played in the movie, and we’re striving to accurately capture that essence.
The Halloween 2018 Connection

In the 2018 movie “Halloween”, it was comedian Colin Mahan who lent his voice to Doctor Loomis. His uncanny impression of Pleasance caught the eye of the film’s creators, landing him the role. Though the character himself wasn’t present in the film, you could hear Loomis’ voice on an old recording, urging the execution of Michael Myers, a patient he had once treated. Doctor Loomis is like Captain Ahab from “Moby-Dick”, relentlessly chasing after Michael Myers and trying to warn everyone about the danger he poses. As the game’s design director put it, “Doctor Loomis is just as significant as Michael.” (as a gamer, I might say: “In Halloween 2018, comedian Colin Mahan portrayed Doctor Loomis. His impressions of Pleasance impressed the movie makers, and he landed the role. Although the character wasn’t in the film, his voice was heard on an old recording, urging the execution of Michael Myers, a former patient. Doctor Loomis resembles Captain Ahab from ‘Moby-Dick’, always on Michael Myers’ tail and trying to warn everyone about the danger he poses. The game’s design director said, “Doctor Loomis is just as crucial as Michael.”)
Currently, it’s unclear if Doctor Loomis will be a playable character or a significant non-player character (NPC) in the game. Similarly, there’s no definitive information about Laurie Strode’s appearance in the film or the game. While Laurie and Donald Pleasance were key characters in the original 1978 Halloween movie, the game may explore an alternate narrative that could shift focus away from Laurie and her friends. It’s plausible that the game might center around new playable characters instead.
Currently, enthusiasts of the franchise are asked to exercise some patience as they eagerly await the upcoming revelations leading up to the release of Halloween next year. The introduction of Mahan and Doctor Loomis’ significant role in the game suggests a promising development, but there is much that remains unclear. It is hoped that the game will successfully engage both die-hard fans of the horror series, as well as newcomers encountering it for the first time.
