After long periods of anticipation, hopefulness, and even disbelief, Team Cherry has set a release date for September 4th for Hollow Knight: Silksong. Despite it still feeling surreal, it’s worth noting that pre-launch reviews won’t be available.
According to Jason Schreier from Bloomberg, who had a conversation with the team about the lengthy development of the game ‘Silksong’, he shared on Bluesky that Team Cherry stated they won’t be distributing early codes for the game. This means that reviews likely won’t be available until after the game has been released, as it wouldn’t be fair to allow critics to play before Kickstarter backers and other players.
The logic may seem unusual, yet not entirely unexpected. Moreover, Schreier considers this as just one factor among many. He notes that it would require considerable effort and time to acquire and disseminate codes, given their small team and the tight schedule they face over the next fortnight.
You might think that the game doesn’t require reviews due to all the excitement surrounding it. Interestingly, it will be accessible on Game Pass from the start for those unwilling to pay the full cost. Therefore, it’s worth noting as you ponder if it lives up to anticipations.
The game titled Hollow Knight: Silksong is set to release simultaneously on various platforms including Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Nintendo Switch, and (assuming there’s a Nintendo Switch 2), at the time of its launch. Additionally, it will be compatible with ROG Xbox Alloy and Alloy X controllers, which are scheduled to debut on October 16th.
Team Cherry has shared that they won’t be distributing early access codes for Silksong. They believe it would be unjust if critics got to play before Kickstarter supporters and other players, so you shouldn’t anticipate reviews until after the game’s release.
