After a well-publicized restart, films from the DC universe such as Aquaman and Zack Snyder’s Justice League are now not part of the official storyline.
In essence, these narratives do not take place within the same cosmos as new tales featuring Creature Commandos and Superman under James Gunn’s direction.
Nevertheless, a handful of characters endured the shift, including John Cena’s character, Peacemaker, from The Suicide Squad.
Positive news for supporters of the Peacemaker show, as it debuted its inaugural season within the former DC universe.
As we step into a fresh season, James Gunn, the series creator, is faced with an intriguing question: Given that Zack Snyder’s universe is no longer canonical, how does he account for the Justice League cameo at the end of season 1’s finale?
As a cinephile looking back, let me remind you of a thrilling turn of events in the recent cinematic universe. If you’ve somehow missed it, our beloved superheroes – Superman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and The Flash – united to shield Earth from an extraterrestrial onslaught. Unfortunately, their timely intervention was elusive; they arrived too late.
In a heated moment, Peacemaker, in an uncouth manner, told Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, “Find another fish to bother, jerk!” After storming past the team, Ezra Miller’s Flash interjected, clarifying that it wasn’t just a rumor. To this, Aquaman responded with a similar tone, saying, “You too, Barry.”
Alternatively, Peacemaker angrily told Aquaman during a disagreement, “Go find another fish to annoy, you jerk!” After storming past the team, Flash confirmed it wasn’t just gossip. Aquaman, in response, said, “And you can go bother another fish too, Barry.

Despite its popularity when it originally aired in 2021, it seems incongruous to consider Peacemaker season 2 as part of the contemporary DC universe, given its earlier timeline.
As a cinephile, I appreciate Gunn’s direct approach when confronting this issue. Rather than sweeping it under the rug with a casual remark or offhand explanation, he boldly addresses it front and center.
In the beginning of Season 2, there’s a recap montage reminding us of key events from the previous season of Peacemaker within the DC Universe.
Later on, Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks) proposes assembling the “Justice Gang” instead of the Justice League, and this decision leads us to witness a revised portrayal of her season 1 appearance, which has been reshot featuring the group we initially encountered in Superman.
As Mr. Terrific, Superman, and Supergirl remain concealed, Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern and Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl refer to Peacemaker as someone with a thick head or a strong-headed person.
“Screw that guy,” continues Green Lantern. “Do you know he tells people I’m a puke freak?”
As a die-hard fan, I’ve got to say, James Gunn pulled off an ingenious move by replacing the Justice League with the Justice Gang in the DC Universe’s latest installment. This clever swap allowed him to seamlessly introduce Peacemaker without directly contradicting the established narrative of the past.
And he did it with a cheeky wink that perfectly fits the tone we’ve come to expect from Peacemaker.
Peacemaker season 2 is available on Sky Max and NOW from Friday 22nd August 2025.
