As a die-hard Star Wars fan, I’m thrilled to share that Daisy Ridley, as Rey, will be making her comeback in the Star Wars universe, marking her first appearance since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. However, it’s important to note that this new story won’t delve into the intricacies of the Star Wars: New Jedi Order, which is still under development. Instead, this tale will focus on the timeframe directly following the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, offering insights into the gap between Rey’s escape on Crait and the year that transpired before Emperor Palpatine made his grand return to the galaxy.
As reported by Lucasfilm Press, “Star Wars: The Jaws of Jakku” is expected to feature Rey returning to her home planet, Jakku, for a journey delving into her past and enhancing her Jedi training. This Audible Original audio adventure won’t only be about Rey; characters from the previous Star Trilogy will also make a comeback in this project.
Rey Returns In Star Wars: The Jaws of Jakku
After the occurrences in “The Last Jedi”, Rey finds it hard to move past her solitary upbringing on the barren planet of Jakku. Eager to make progress in her Jedi education, she goes back to her original world accompanied by Finn and BB-8. According to the story’s summary, they come across a young girl engaged in a perilous mission to rescue her family. They venture through dark passages beneath the sand, where they encounter scuttling gnaw-jaws, an unsettling remnant of the past, and perhaps-just perhaps-a glimmer of hope for everyone involved.
The audiobook titled “Star Wars: The Jaws of Jakku” is an exclusive production under Audible Originals, available only on their app. This original work delves deeper into Finn’s emotions following the events on Crait, and author Cavan Scott hints at the appearance of a significant Star Wars legend.
In a post on their website, Scott revealed that this audiobook, releasing on October 9th, is set between “The Last Jedi” and “The Rise of Skywalker“. It focuses on Rey’s challenges during her training under General Leia Organa as her new master.
Helen Sadler is going to deliver the narrative for the audiobook, with the tale being narrated in the first-person perspective, following the journey of a young girl on Jakku. This way, we’ll get insight into her thoughts as Rey and her companions work together to save her family.
The audiobook you’ve been waiting for will be out on October 9th and can be pre-ordered right now for $24.95 from Audible. If you’re an Audible premium subscriber, you can also get it with a special token. Regarding Daisy Ridley’s character returning to the big screen, fans will need to be patient as its release is still some time away.
Rey’s Story Will Continue In Star Wars’ New Jedi Order Movie
The movie, which director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still involved with, has undergone some script revisions as of now and doesn’t have a set release date. Meanwhile, the writer for the upcoming Star Wars’ New Jedid Order film, Steven Knight, has stepped down, sharing insights into his tenure on the project.
According to Knight, there’s a particular process in place. Once you interact with it, you understand its nature. You contribute your part by submitting your work, as Knight did, and then the process continues. It’s anticipated that a significant portion of what he contributed will be featured in the final film – though exact details are uncertain – but that’s generally how things pan out.
The news about Rey’s comeback was initially shared at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, however, it has been handled by several different writers so far, and a specific release date is yet to be determined. Daisy Ridley is the sole cast member from “The Rise of Skywalker” who will reprise her role in this upcoming trilogy. In an interview with ComicBook in February, Ridley expressed enthusiasm for the new storyline and praised George Nolfi as a worthy successor to J.J. Abrams (Knight).
Ridley shared with ComicBook that although he hasn’t yet read the newest script, he’s well-versed with the storyline due to his familiarity with George’s work. He expresses high regard for George as a writer, stating ‘he’s fantastic’. Ridley is confident that they are crafting the most effective way to narrate this story, ensuring it will be an engaging experience for viewers. Needless to say, he’s enthusiastic about it.
Currently, the Star Wars project remains in its early stages of development, often referred to as pre-production. Excitingly, a new audio-drama titled Star Wars: The Jaws of Jakku is set to debut exclusively on Audible on October 9th. If you’re interested, you can already place a pre-order for it!
