Her electrifying debut as the character in the divisively received Suicide Squad was merely the beginning, with her subsequent roles in Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) and The Suicide Squad earning critical acclaim. However, even after working with James Gunn on The Suicide Squad, Robbie remains uncertain about her future as everyone’s favorite chaos-embracing antiheroine. Recently, in an interview with Variety to promote her latest film, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, Robbie disclosed that she’s yet to receive word from Gunn regarding her continued journey as Harley Quinn.

Lately, Gunn announced that more details about Robbie’s character Harley Quinn would be disclosed later. However, as stated by Robbie herself, she hasn’t received any updates on this yet. For now, “I’ve heard nothing” is what she told the news source. In response to her statement, her co-star Colin Farrell (who portrays The Penguin) asked if Robbie ever tires of Harley Quinn. To which she responded, “Never. You can’t grow tired of Harley. I adore her so much. I’ve always had great expectations for her, like Batman. A character that continues to thrive even after I’m done playing her.

Margot Robbie Was Passionate About Playing Harley Quinn in the DCEU

As a passionate cinephile, I can’t help but share my excitement over the playful banter between myself and Margot Robbie about the possibility of a crossover between my character, The Penguin, and hers, Harley Quinn. She playfully suggested that our pairing would result in a twisted power couple. While my Penguin continues to be a part of Matt Reeves’ gritty Batman saga, it remains unclear which DCEU characters or actors James Gunn will incorporate into the new DC Universe he’s crafting. She later appeared in Birds of Prey, which, although it didn’t perform exceptionally well at the box office, earned a better critical reception with a 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In fact, Robbie played an instrumental role in its development, not only suggesting the idea to screenwriter Christina Hodson but also contributing to its production.
