Lately, I’ve noticed a resurgence in the Justice League, with the team taking some time off after the Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, giving room for the Titans to step up. However, following Absolute Power, the League returned, rebuilding their satellite base in DC All-In #1. Since then, they’ve devised a new system, one that unites nearly every hero on Earth under the Justice League banner. Red Tornado, a character with a rich history, has become instrumental in this new setup, serving as the League’s computer system. Initially created by T.O. Morrow to destroy the League, Red Tornado is reminiscent of the Vision from the Marvel Universe, having been inhabited by the Tornado Entity and becoming one of the team’s most reliable members. He’s been without a physical form for quite some time, but Justice League Red #1 marks his return to corporeal existence.
Justice League Red #1 introduces a fresh chapter in the Justice League’s timeline, presenting a covert team within the League. Throughout the years, various Justice Leagues have emerged, and this new series offers a special ops division for the team. Tornado perceives that the Earth is once again under threat due to the League’s reformation, so he assembles a group to tackle challenges that the main League finds difficult to manage. Simultaneously, he embarks on an intriguing journey of rebuilding his own body. The reconstruction of Red Tornado’s unique physique is one of the character’s most captivating features, but will he be able to restore its former power and prowess?
Red Tornado Has Always Been One of the Justice League’s Most Formidable Members

Originally, Red Tornado emerged as a malevolent figure from Earth-Two, crafted by technology whiz T.O. Morrow with the intention of annihilating both the Justice League and the Justice Society. However, the Tornado Entity took control of the robot, causing it to ally itself with the League instead. In essence, Red Tornado possessed a sort of consciousness or spirit. Each time its robotic form was damaged beyond repair, it would regain control after being refurbished, retaining its previous memories, character traits, and powers. Morrow constructed Red Tornado to be incredibly durable, making it withstand even the most catastrophic damage. It wasn’t until “The Tornado’s Path,” a renowned Justice League story from the ’00s, that Reddy’s true power was revealed. During the formation of a new Justice League, Batman advocated for Reddy’s inclusion. He pointed out that Reddy was nearly indestructible and his body was far stronger than anyone had anticipated. As events unfolded, Red Tornado became entangled in a scheme devised by Solomon Grundy, who had been given intelligence upon resurrection. Desiring to never die again and maintain his intelligence, Grundy manipulated Red Tornado into occupying a human body instead of the robot one. Once under Grundy’s control, the human form was used for his own objectives, eventually being handed over to Professor Ivo, another DC villain with expertise in robotics, to be transformed into armor.
In a turn of events, Reddy’s physical form received Amazo’s attributes and engaged the League before Grundy seized control. Despite this enhancement that made Reddy’s body stronger than typical – as Amazo possesses all powers of the Justice League – it essentially remained Reddy’s body in terms of structure. The League managed to win the battle primarily due to Vixen, who borrowed Superman’s powers (unusual for Vixen as her abilities usually involve copying animals, but read “Justice League of America” Vol. 2 #0-12 to understand why) and launched an attack on it. Remarkably, Reddy’s body was never totally annihilated; instead, it would always be reconstructed by Will Magnus, another DC robot expert who acts as a hero. The body was almost indestructible; it could be dismantled but the components remained intact and were capable of being reassembled. In a previous battle against Amanda Waller, Reddy suffered severe damage at the hands of the Suicide Squad in “Absolute Power”. Though his original body seemed to be rendered beyond repair, he’s since been transferred to the Justice League’s computer system.
Red Tornado Was One of the Justice League’s Best Tanks, but Can He Be Again?

In issue #1 of Justice League Red, the story begins with Reddy examining potential outcomes as the Justice League makes their comeback, using an advanced forecasting tool. Simultaneously, it’s disclosed that he is constructing a novel body, appearing to be a fusion of mechanical and organic elements. At this point, it remains uncertain whether any portions of this new body are derived from his previous one, as his old form was entirely devoid of biological components.
Although Reddy retains his powers, associated with the Tornado Entity, his new form might not match its former durability. Morrow’s robotic creations are unparalleled, and even genius inventor Will Magnus struggles to replicate all of Morrow’s work. It’s plausible that Reddy could do it, but we can reasonably expect his new body won’t be as resilient as the old one was.
