In the latest season of King of the Hill, currently streaming on Hulu, one significant shift for character Hank Hill is his retirement. Interestingly, during the revival’s development, the creative team initially considered having Hank take on an entirely different job instead. Given that King of the Hill fans are well-versed in Hank’s affection for his work in propane and his occasional preference for it over family, this shift to a retired Hank with more free time was quite a departure from the original series.
In Season 14 of “King of the Hill,” it became clear that Hank had been working at an Aramco base in Saudi Arabia on “Arabian propane and propane accessories” as part of his plan to retire financially secure. According to showrunner Saladin K. Patternson, discussions among the creative team centered around whether they would completely retire Hank, return him to Strickland Propane, or provide him with a new job altogether. (Paraphrased from the original text.)
King of the Hill Almost Gave Hank New Job
As a die-hard fan, I’ve been eagerly pondering some intriguing questions about our beloved character Hank. Should he dive into a new career, or should we witness him fully embracing retirement? Is it more suitable for him to continue at Strictland Propane? But the main objective of this revival isn’t just changing the characters, but keeping them familiar enough to delight fans who have followed the series from the start. We wanted to use the opportunity to let these characters age and explore what makes sense for them in their current stage of life. Many discussions ensued to determine the best path forward.
As Patterson went on, he shared that the real challenge in reviving “King of the Hill” became evident here, “Whenever we’re resurrecting a show like this or planning to bring another one back, we often grapple with the question: why now? The answer lies in offering something fresh yet familiar to the audience. Yet, it’s essential to maintain continuity so that viewers can recognize and cherish the beloved show.” So far, it appears the team has nailed it in terms of fan reception.
Is King of the Hill Season 15 Going to Happen?
At present, there’s no official word from King of the Hill about any upcoming projects on Hulu. The revival for Season 14 has been a major hit in recent times, setting records as the most-watched original animated series debut in the last five years on a streaming platform. Given its success with the streamer, it’s reasonable to expect another season, although no formal announcement has been made yet. However, hints have been dropped that work may be underway for a new season.
It appears that Patterson has hinted at potential homages to characters who didn’t make an appearance in the initial set of episodes, which suggests that there may be a second season on the horizon. If Hulu confirms the existence of another season, it would be greatly appreciated by fans eager to delve deeper into this new phase of the series.
