In one way to rephrase the given text in a more natural and easy-to-understand manner:
Superhero universes, whether successful or not, are usually created by teams. The moment the Avengers united for the first time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe marked a significant milestone, setting off a chain of even bigger events. Marvel Studios’ success didn’t go unnoticed by DC, who quickly followed suit by producing a Superman film and a sequel that brought together their trio of key characters – the DC Trinity – on screen for the first time. However, early signs of trouble emerged in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and by the release of Justice League, it was clear that the DC Extended Universe was struggling. Thankfully, the era of recklessly launching projects without proper planning is now behind us.
James Gunn now leads the DC Universe, and it’s evident that he has ambitious plans for the Justice League in the coming years. However, patience will be key as we wait for Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and their allies to reunite. But don’t worry, the DCU isn’t shying away from teams altogether. In fact, it’s already setting the stage for one of the most eccentric DC groups yet!
Peacemaker Brings Another Super-Pet to the DCU
In the second season of Peacemaker, we get a refresher on events from the previous series, but this time, it seems like the show has always been part of the DC Universe. This is beneficial as it avoids lengthy and confusing explanations. Moving forward, our anti-hero, Peacemaker, continues to be the focus, navigating his way through life. He resides in his father’s old house with his friend Eagly, who seems oblivious to the importance of a good night’s sleep. The noisy bird often wakes up Peacemaker and leads him to open the door to White Dragon’s pocket dimension. Shortly after, an alien appears and begins to burn a rodent, disregarding Peacemaker’s greeting – a move that doesn’t sit well. Unfortunately, Peacemaker can’t dwell on this as Eagly vanishes, leading him on a hunt to find his missing friend. When Peacemaker locates Eagly, he finds him scratching at a door, which turns out to be a portal to another universe where the helmet-wearing hero resides.
The show doesn’t explain why Eagly might have an interest in the door, but considering his history, it’s not hard to envision a situation where he has encountered the Peacemaker previously. It seems that animals intruding where they shouldn’t is becoming a common occurrence in the DCU, as Superman’s furry friend Krypto causes more problems than solutions in the 2025 movie. However, there may be a chance for both Krypto and Eagly to turn things around if they team up and establish the Legion of Super-Pets together.
The Legion of Super-Pets Could Be the DCU’s Second Major Team
At present, the prominent figures gracing DCU’s campus are the Justice Gang, assembled by Maxwell Lord. This wealthy individual has an ambitious plan to commercialize global peace, leading him to enlist Guy Gardner, Mister Terrific, and Hawkgirl to represent his organization. In the series ‘Peacemaker’, the Justice Gang appears to be seeking new members, possibly suggesting they feel inadequate. This self-doubt might create an opportunity for the Legion of Super-Pets to outshine them, as it’s evident that most people on Earth hold a soft spot for animals, as seen in Metropolis when citizens save dogs, cats, and even turtles during the evacuation depicted in ‘Superman’.
Because a dog and an eagle might not be sufficient to instill fear in villains, Krypto and Eagly will need to seek out new members. The top candidates are Ace the Bat-Hound, who works alongside Batman in keeping Gotham clean, and Detective Chimp, a chimp with detective skills reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes, solving crimes throughout the DC Universe. They may not be as legendary as the ’27 Yankees, but if the DCU is bold enough to form the team, there’s definitely a place for them in the Legion of Super-Pets.
Peacemaker is streaming on HBO Max.
