WWE Superstar Attempts Cash-In at Night of Champions, (And It Goes Horribly Wrong)

Following numerous unexpected incidents during Night of Champions, the main event finally arrived, and surprisingly, the conclusion was even more disorderly than anything that had preceded it. The fight was expected to be a single combat between two long-standing WWE fan favorites, John Cena and CM Punk, and it was for roughly half of the battle. However, in the latter part, no less than five other wrestlers became entangled in a Money in the Bank cash-in attempt, and to put it mildly, things didn’t go well for the briefcase holder at all.

Initially in the bout, it appeared that Cena and Punk had a mutual understanding, making it challenging for either to gain full control of the fight. Given their stature as two of WWE’s top stars and their multiple encounters throughout their careers, it wasn’t unexpected that Five Knuckle Shuffles, running knees, neckbreakers, and other moves were being outmaneuvered constantly.

They know each other SO well!

During Punk’s encounters, Attitude Adjustments were delivered a few times, yet Punk managed to keep getting up. However, the course of the match shifted slightly when Cena reached for his Championship to strike Punk, but ultimately chose not to. This decision then resulted in Punk delivering a GTS to Cena. From that point on, events took an unexpected turn.

Time to Cash In

In a twist of events, Punk aimed to bring a referee towards the wrestling ring after the other one was felled, yet it turned out to be Seth Rollins, Paul Heyman, Bron Breakker, and Bronson Reed who appeared instead. Accompanied by the Money in the Bank briefcase, they descended into the arena, with Reed and Breakker taking matters into their own hands against Punk, violently hurling him through the commentator’s table.

In this scenario, Rollins planned to summon another referee to cash in his briefcase, but as he approached the ring, Cena intercepted him and confronted Rollins instead. Attempting to strike Cena with the briefcase, Rollins missed and was hit by an AA instead. Meanwhile, Penta rushed towards the ring to disperse Rollins’ entourage, but Breakker tripped him up. However, Breakker was quickly ambushed by Sami Zayn.

This is absolute CHAOS right now!

Later, Cena delivered an AA to Reed, making it a one-on-one encounter with Punk again. Punk extended a hand, which Cena initially took, but then tried to strike him low. However, Punk swiftly caught Cena’s foot and prepared a GTS instead. Suddenly, Rollins appeared and struck Punk with the briefcase unexpectedly. Rollins followed up by attacking Punk with a curb stomp, but Cena ejected Rollins from the ring and pinned Punk for victory, thereby defending his Title and thwarting Rollins’ cash-in attempt. The complete results of Night of Champions can be found below.

At WWENOC, Punk and Cena exchange greetings with a handshake and hug. However, it seems that Cena has unfinished business with him, as he did with Cody earlier, attempting a low blow. Seth then intervenes by attacking Punk with the briefcase and stomping on him. In the end, Cena manages to throw Seth out of the ring, securing the victory!
