Over time, One Piece has unveiled numerous heartrending characters, earning a reputation for subtly inserting gut-wrenching backstories at the least expected moments. The latest example of this is Kuma, whose sorrowful past is being unfolded in the One Piece anime. Keeping all that in mind, the Elbaf Arc has unexpectedly introduced its own tragic figure, and it turns out to be Loki, the so-called “Accursed Prince,” who might be on a journey towards redemption.
In Chapter 1153 of “One Piece”, we delve into Loki’s past, uncovering that Harald was compelled to wed Loki’s mother, Estrid, due to the Giants demanding a union with someone of untainted Ancient Giant lineage. This revelation is followed by the disclosure that Loki, at birth, bore serpentine eyes, causing Estrid immense fear. In response, she cast Loki into the Underworld, labeling him as cursed and monstrous. As Estrid prepares to revisit her Elbaf village, a poignant scene unfolds of Loki weeping while attempting to climb Jewel Tree Adam, creating an evocative tableau of the tormented character Loki has been portrayed as thus far.
One Piece Is Setting Loki up for a Classic Redemption
In the world of “One Piece,” some parents have been downright awful, but Estrid, Loki’s mother, could be the worst of them all. The latest instalment reveals Estrid swiftly turning her back on Loki, first instructing witnesses to report his birth as a stillbirth, then deciding to keep it hidden from everyone entirely. The scene of Loki stretching out his tiny hands towards his mother, only to find no one there, is already heart-wrenching. To make matters worse, the chapter concludes with a poignant image of Loki struggling to escape from the Underworld, simultaneously winning over fans’ affection.
Given that King Harald has previously interacted with both Loki and Hajrudin in a quick flashback, it’s clear that Loki’s birth wasn’t kept hidden for long, especially since Estrid didn’t live much longer afterwards. However, the most intriguing aspect of the chapter lies in the disclosure of a prophecy predicting that Harald would be killed by his own son. This prophecy seems to be the reason behind any misfortunes that later befell Elbaf, as they were often blamed on Loki being under a curse.
Contrary to the prophecy, events in Chapter 1152 revealed that King Harald was fatally wounded by his guards before Loki and Jarul arrived at Aurust Castle. This suggests that Loki may not be guilty of his most significant crime, instead choosing to bear the blame. If this is true, it opens up the possibility that all other accusations against Loki regarding his misdeeds might also be unfounded, tarnishing his reputation as the “Accursed Prince” of Elbaf unfairly.
Though his background may have led him to be a potential villain, it’s evident that Loki isn’t as wicked as he first appeared. Luffy senses this too, showing faith in Loki by inviting him to join the Straw Hats. It looks like One Piece is once again crafting an intriguing redemption storyline. By the end of the Elbaf Arc, there’s a strong possibility that Loki will become another beloved character among fans.
