Supergiant Games is well-known for making excellent indie games, but their game Hades was a massive hit. Because of this, it’s exciting – though not surprising – that they’ve now created a sequel, Hades II, for the first time.
Hades stood out from other games with its tough but rewarding battles, incredible story, and innovative way of unfolding that story. Plus, it was visually stunning.
Hades II has been available in early access for almost a year, and with its official launch just around the corner, here’s a comprehensive look at what you need to know about this new adventure into Greek mythology.
When is the Hades II release date?
Hades II releases on 25th September 2025.
The game launched in early access on May 6th, 2024. Since then, the developers at Supergiant Games have been actively improving it based on player feedback, aiming to create an experience as good as-or better than-their popular 2020 game.
After a long development process, the game is finally ready to launch very soon.
Which consoles and platforms can play Hades II?
Hades II will be released on PC and Nintendo Switch, with the game coming to the new Nintendo Switch 2 console first, before being available on older Switch models.
Because it’s only available for a limited time on certain platforms, it will likely be released on Xbox and PlayStation eventually, mirroring the path of the first game.
Hades took about 11 months to come to consoles after its initial release on PC and Switch. Based on that timeframe, we anticipate Hades II will likely be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S around August 2026.
Can I pre-order Hades II?
Absolutely! PC gamers can buy the game on Steam. You can also find a code through Loaded, but the discount is minimal, so Steam is likely the better option.
You can also get yourself a copy on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo eShop!
Hades II gameplay and story details
Hades II features a new main character: Melinoë, the sister of Zagreus and a princess of the underworld. Unlike the first game, you won’t be playing as Zagreus this time.
We’ll be playing as the main character as she tries to beat Chronos, a villain who controls time. We don’t have many details yet, but we’re excited to play and have some fun with it! (And we made a little time-related pun, sorry not sorry.)
The gameplay feels much like the original, with a cycle of progressing the story by attempting runs, learning from failures, and ultimately succeeding. It’s a solid formula, so the developers wisely kept it largely the same.
Is there a Hades II trailer?
There is indeed a Hades II trailer, released at the Game Awards in 2022. Enjoy!
