It’s mid-September, and Halloween season is officially starting! For the next six weeks, we’ll see lots of spooky movies and decorations. But surprisingly, some cheerful Christmas movies have also appeared on Netflix and are becoming popular with viewers.
Netflix added both *Daddy’s Home* and *Daddy’s Home 2* to its selection this week. While these movies starring Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell are typically popular during the holiday season, they’re now among the most-watched films on the streaming service.
According to Netflix’s Top 10 list updated today, *Daddy’s Home 2* is currently the sixth most popular movie on the platform. The original *Daddy’s Home* is also on the list, but at number nine. Surprisingly, the sequel is performing better, even though it’s more focused on the holidays.
Is Daddy’s Home a Christmas Movie?
The first *Daddy’s Home* movie from 2015 wasn’t really about Christmas. However, the second film, *Daddy’s Home 2* released in 2017, is completely centered around the holiday and features a Christmas-themed storyline.
Interestingly, the first *Daddy’s Home* movie actually premiered on Christmas Day – December 25th, 2015. Though it’s not a traditional Christmas movie with themes of Santa or gifts, many people chose to see it in theaters during the holidays.
The first “Daddy’s Home” movie was a big success during the 2015 holiday season, earning over $242 million in theaters. Hoping to repeat that success, Paramount released “Daddy’s Home 2” earlier in the holiday season on November 10, 2017, specifically aiming to capture audiences before Thanksgiving and Christmas. While it didn’t perform as well as the original, earning $180 million worldwide, the sequel was still a profitable venture for the studio.
Despite the lack of official news, many fans are still hoping for a third ‘Daddy’s Home’ movie. Mark Wahlberg and others involved in the films have said they’d be open to making another one, but Paramount hasn’t confirmed anything yet.
