Mark Ronson is detailing the scariest moments of his drug use.
The well-known DJ recalled a frightening experience from his twenties when he took drugs that made him feel like he was having a stroke.
I’ll never forget one night back when I was DJing in New York. I was already feeling the effects of ecstasy when I made a terrible decision and did a line of cocaine. Almost immediately, my chest started to feel incredibly tight, and my left arm went completely numb. It was terrifying – I honestly wondered if I was having a stroke, and I was only twenty years old! I wrote about it in my book, *Night People*, detailing what it was like being a DJ in the 90s, and that night definitely stands out as a really scary moment.
When his friends found him, he was severely withdrawn and unable to move much, almost like he was in a trance. Instead of taking him to the hospital, they decided to bring him home.
Mark, age 50, described how his friends tried to cheer him up as they drove down Park Avenue, hoping to lift his spirits. He managed a weak, insincere smile. Back at home, his friend Tom kindly helped him into bed, which reminded him of the caring nurses who looked after him when he had meningitis as a child.
Despite a frightening health scare that wasn’t a stroke, Mark continued to use drugs. The producer of “Valerie” even admitted he’d gone too far with his drug use.
Looking back, I realize I was really pushing my limits, experimenting with drugs in a reckless way. I got to a point where I wasn’t being careful about what I was taking. There was one night, in particular, where I ended up using heroin – honestly, I wasn’t asking what was being offered, I just accepted it. It was a dangerous time, and I’m sharing this to emphasize how easily things can escalate when you’re not mindful of what you’re putting into your body.
I’ve been following Mark’s journey for a while now, and his recent post really struck me. He shared some incredibly honest thoughts about his past, saying he’s grateful he never fell as deeply into addiction as some of his close friends – friends who are still fighting those battles today. It was a really powerful reminder of how lucky he is to be where he is now, and it felt so raw and real. He and Grace Gummer are amazing parents to their daughters, and it’s inspiring to see him speak so openly.
I’ve always been fascinated by his honesty. He once wrote about not being totally straight-edged, but also not actively *seeking* out trouble. Reading his book, *Night People*, he talked about looking back on his younger days and being shocked by how much he pushed his body, and how *normal* he thought it all was. It’s almost scary how he realized it actually kept him from really *living* life, you know, from connecting with what truly mattered.
Mark recently discussed how he remembers most of the health problems caused by drug use, and how those experiences significantly impacted his mental well-being.
He shared with *Rolling Stone* that while some memories are clearer than others, he distinctly remembers the times he felt his life was in danger. He explained that he was driven enough to stay relatively composed while performing, prioritizing the show. However, as soon as the performance ended, he’d often let loose and party hard, though not every single night.
He explained that he began experiencing severe anxiety attacks. Knowing his family’s history with these issues, he sometimes used drugs, but would immediately feel guilty, ashamed, and even more anxious afterward. He recalled one night when he and some friends used drugs, and within thirty seconds, he thought he was having a heart attack. It turned out to be talcum powder.

To give some context, he explained that just a few weeks or a month prior, he was able to squat 295 pounds. Now, he can’t even do a squat, struggles with single-leg exercises, and often falls. He compared the feeling to having had a stroke.
But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

The *Kim Possible* actor explained that a small piece of something got stuck behind their eye. Doctors have advised against removing it with surgery right now, but they will keep a close watch on the situation. Thankfully, their vision is currently normal.
As a huge fan, hearing her speak just broke my heart, but also filled me with so much hope. She said she’s just incredibly thankful to still be here. She talked about how much her daughters, husband, family, and friends mean to her – it was so moving. She described seeing her whole life pass before her, and honestly, it was a powerful reminder to cherish every moment and hug the people you love whenever you can. She’s right, things can change so quickly.
Amy Schumer is grateful for the internet, despite its often harsh nature, because it helped her discover a health issue. After noticing she looked “puffier” and facing criticism online, doctors began commenting on her appearances, suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome – a condition often linked to high cortisol levels or steroid injections. This prompted Schumer to realize she’d received steroid injections after a breast reduction and C-section. She credits the online attention with leading to her diagnosis. In a recent newsletter, Schumer expressed immense relief that her specific case of Cushing syndrome is expected to resolve on its own and that she is healthy.
In December 2024, an AHL player suffered a skate cut during a game and needed 25 stitches to close the wound. In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin. She suddenly developed stroke-like symptoms, initially unable to respond when Justin asked if she was alright. She then realized she couldn’t speak and the right side of her face began to droop.
Although the symptoms eventually passed, Hailey went to the hospital and tests revealed she’d had a small blood clot in her brain, which doctors identified as a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack).
Further testing at UCLA discovered she had a hole in her heart, called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). Doctors determined the blood clot had traveled to her brain through this hole, causing the TIA.
Hailey has since undergone a successful procedure to close the PFO and is now doing well.
Oh my gosh, it was such a scary time! The same year Hailey was dealing with her health issues, Justin went through something awful too. In June 2022, he revealed he had Ramsay Hunt syndrome – I was so worried! It basically caused half of his face to become paralyzed. He posted a video on Instagram explaining everything, and it was heartbreaking to see him unable to blink, smile, or even move his nostril on one side. He even said it was getting harder and harder for him to eat! I was constantly checking for updates, just praying he’d be okay. Thankfully, the paralysis eventually went away. Hailey said he was doing really well and feeling much better, and honestly, it was such a relief to hear! It was a really scary and random thing to happen, but knowing he’s okay now just makes me so incredibly grateful.
Jamie Foxx recently shared details about the health scare he experienced in April 2023, which he had previously kept private. In his 2024 Netflix special, *What Had Happened Was…*, he explained that he suffered from a severe headache one day while in Atlanta. Before he could take an aspirin, he lost consciousness and doesn’t remember the next twenty days.
Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, was worried and took him to the hospital. There, they discovered he had a brain bleed that caused a stroke.
After surgery, twenty days passed, and Jamie woke up on May 4th in a wheelchair, unable to walk. He then went to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy. He expressed his gratitude for all the prayers he received, saying he needed every single one.

After that, she remembers only darkness, followed by light, leading her to realize she had died that day.
She explained that her organs were failing. She hadn’t known she had rhabdomyolysis, a condition where your body essentially starts to shut down.
Emilia Clarke, known for her role in *Game of Thrones*, revealed a harrowing health battle in a 2019 essay for *The New Yorker*. While filming the series, she experienced a sudden and severe headache while at the gym. She described collapsing and being violently ill, realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain.
A hospital scan revealed she had suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), a life-threatening stroke caused by a ruptured aneurysm. She immediately underwent surgery to repair it, but the pain was excruciating. During her recovery, she experienced aphasia, struggling to speak coherently.
Though the aphasia eventually passed and she was discharged after a month, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had grown and required a second surgery. This surgery was unsuccessful, leading to a major bleed and putting her life at risk. Doctors had to perform a more invasive procedure, accessing her brain directly through her skull.
Fortunately, Emilia is now fully recovered and says she is “at a hundred per cent.”

Cori ended up staying in the hospital longer than expected due to other health issues. While she could have gone home after the stroke, her lupus and failing kidneys required further care. Today, Cori is recovering well. She says she’s feeling great and has been working to regain some motor skills, but is otherwise doing fine.
Shailene Woodley struggled with significant health issues throughout her early twenties. In a September 2024 podcast interview, she described a time when she was losing her hearing, unable to walk for more than a few minutes without needing hours of rest, and experiencing constant stomach pain. She faced conflicting diagnoses from various doctors. Determined to find answers, Shailene, who prefers to keep her specific condition private, combined traditional medical care with holistic and herbal remedies. This search for well-being lasted for ten years. The physical discomfort led to deeper issues, including fear of food and struggles with body image, identity, and feeling comfortable in her own body. Ultimately, Shailene’s health improved, and she is now happy to report that she is fully recovered and healthy.
