If you own an Anker portable charger, it’s important to check its model number right away. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recently warned about five Anker power banks that were voluntarily recalled by the company back in June 2025 – checking could prevent a safety issue and keep your devices powered up.
A few months ago, Anker announced a recall of five power bank models. While the company believed there was a very low chance of something going wrong, they decided to issue the recall as a precautionary measure.
Around 481,000 Anker power banks are thought to be affected and are currently being used by consumers. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has received 33 reports of these power banks catching fire or exploding, resulting in four minor burn injuries and significant property damage in one case.
Which Anker power banks are affected by the recall?
The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports these power banks were available for purchase from August 2023 to June 2025 at Best Buy, Target, and various other stores across the country. They were also sold online through Amazon, AliExpress, eBay, Walmart, and TikTok.
As a researcher, I’ve compiled a list of the power banks impacted by this issue, so you can easily check if your device is affected.
- Anker Power Bank | Model A1647 — 20,000mAh, 22.5W, USB-C cable
- Anker MagGo Power Bank | Model A1652 —10,000mAh, 7.5W
- Anker Power Bank | Model A1257 — 10,000mAh, 22.5W
- Anker Zolo Power Bank | Model A1681 — 20,000mAh, 30W, USB-C + Lightning
- Anker Zolo Power Bank | Model A1689 — 20,000mAh, 30W, USB-C
Serial numbers are generally located on the back or the side of the power bank.
I recently learned about a power bank recall, and if you have one, it’s important to check if yours is affected. If the model number matches any of the recalled ones, you should stop using it right away. Anker has an online form where you can verify if your specific model is part of the recall.
If your power bank is one of the recalled models, you’ll need to complete a few extra steps.
To get a refund, customers need to send a picture of their recalled power bank. The photo must clearly show the model and serial numbers, the customer’s name, the date, and the word “recalled” written on the power bank itself. Anker will then explain how to return or safely dispose of the device.
CPSC
I understand that if you’re affected by this product recall, the CPSC says you can get your money back with a full refund, or you can choose to receive a gift card instead.
Can I throw out my faulty Anker power bank?
Anker advises customers not to throw away their power banks until they’ve been officially notified that their specific model is included in the recall.
As a researcher focused on product safety, I want to strongly emphasize that these defective power banks shouldn’t be thrown away with your regular trash, recycled through standard channels, or taken to typical battery recycling locations. It’s crucial to handle them with extra care due to the potential hazards.
Due to the risk of fire with lithium-ion batteries, any recalled power banks need to be taken to a household hazardous waste collection facility for safe disposal.
Before taking any lithium-ion batteries to a household hazardous waste (HHW) facility, it’s best to call ahead and confirm they accept them. If they don’t, check with your local city or town government for guidance on how to dispose of them safely.
Should you continue using a recalled power bank?
Absolutely not.
If your portable charger is among the five most recent models recalled, you should stop using it immediately. Anker says these power banks could overheat, melt, smoke, or even catch fire.
