Marvel’s God of Thunder is about to enter his mortal era.
According to Marvel Comics, the series “The Immortal Thor” has concluded with the publication of its twenty-fifth issue on July 2. This significant installment signaled the end of Thor’s prolonged struggle against Utgard-Loki and other ancient gods, culminating in his tragic death at the hands of Loki, his own sibling. Consequently, Thor faced off against Donald Blake, formerly the God of Thunder’s other half, now recognized as the God of Deception. Instead of engaging Donald in combat, Thor chose to seize a human soul that was spared between them, initiating a new phase in his life as the Mortal Thor.
Mortal Thor #1
As I delve deeper into the gaming world, I find myself eagerly anticipating the upcoming saga titled “The Mortal Thor” penned by Al Ewing and illustrated by Pasqual Ferry. This isn’t just any ordinary adventure; it’s one of the monumental shifts happening in the Asgardian realm of the Marvel Universe. The catastrophic destruction of the legendary Rainbow Bridge has erased Asgard and its gods from the collective memory of the universe. This seismic event will undoubtedly shape the narrative of “The Mortal Thor“. To get a sneak peek, fans can feast their eyes on the first three main issues illustrated by the renowned artist Alex Ross. Each issue offers tantalizing glimpses into what awaits our now-forgotten Avenger.
According to the official summary for Marvel Comic’s The Mortal Thor #1, “The ancient Norse tales depict deities who walked among humans, performing heroic acts for those who revered them. However, Asgard is fictional, and the gods never flew in our skies or stood beside us in battles, nor did they fight for compassion or justice. It was all a myth. No one is coming to save us. Yet, somewhere within the city… a man is stirring. A man with a hammer. This is the tale of Sigurd Jarlson, the EARTHBOUND THOR!
After the publication of “The Immortal Thor” #25, writer Al Ewing shared that he can now discuss more openly about the specific details of the second part of the narrative. Ewing further stated that the story arc linking both series has been a longstanding concept; he aimed to portray Thor as a deity and craft an epic tale for him. However, beyond being Odin’s son, Thor is also Gaea’s child. In this storyline, we find ourselves in winter. Thor is deceased, while Sigurd Jarlson roams the earth – bereft of power, reputation, and recollections. Yet, the destiny of Asgard and Midgard hinges on this mortal man embarking on a journey to restore divine magic to Earth. To do so, he must first battle his way through obstacles to understand the essence of the quest itself.
The Immortal Thor #25 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
