Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is one of the highest rated games of 2025, based on critic reviews.
The role-playing game remake came out last week and has already received very positive reviews, with an average score of 91 on both Metacritic and Opencritic.
That score puts 1st Chapter as the sixth best game of the year, following only Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Blue Prince, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Split Fiction, and Donkey Kong Bananza.
Plus, the first game in the series, 1st Chapter, is now considered the best-rated Trails game by a significant margin.

Falcom, the Japanese developer, has done an excellent job with this game, but there’s a catch. Trails games don’t get reviewed by many publications, and fewer reviews often lead to higher average scores.
Currently, 1st Chapter has a very high score of 91, based on just 11 reviews from critics on Metacritic and 19 on Opencritic.
It’s obvious that players are loving 1st Chapter, especially fans of Falcom’s games and JRPGs. Currently, the game has ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ reviews on Steam.
Honestly, I completely agree with all the hype! I just finished playing Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter on PS5, and I thought it was incredible. In my opinion, it’s a total must-play for JRPG fans, and I’d easily give it a 9 out of 10.
