Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 Downgrades Called Out by Switch Users

Both *Super Mario Galaxy* and *Super Mario Galaxy 2* are coming to Nintendo Switch on October 2nd. While there aren’t plans for a specific version for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, the games will work on the new console. However, some fans aren’t thrilled about this release, as there are worries about how well the games will run on the Switch.

I was just reading on the Nintendo Switch subreddit, and someone made a really good point – the *Super Mario Galaxy* and *Super Mario Galaxy 2* remasters actually look a little worse in certain spots compared to the original Wii games! It’s kind of baffling, honestly, because the Switch is way more powerful than the Wii was. You’d think they could have made the games look even better!

Downgrade?

A recent post on Reddit noticed that some areas of the new port, as seen in the initial trailer, appear to lack textures. This could simply be because the trailer shows an older build of the game where those details hadn’t been added yet – and that’s common during development. However, with the game releasing in less than a month, it seems strange to showcase such an incomplete version.

It’s not just that the game has some texture problems – if that were the case, we could assume it’s still in early development. However, textures actually look good – and are even enhanced – in many areas, which suggests these issues are due to simple carelessness rather than a fundamental flaw.

“Hopefully They Fix This”

One commenter said the initial version is quite poor and hopes Nintendo addresses the issues before the game launches. Another user pointed out that a high price tag demands a high-quality product and expressed hope for a fix.

Another user highlighted the issue, saying the first example looked significantly worse without the texture and expressed hope for a fix.

This isn’t due to a bug or mistake; it’s a conscious decision by the developers. Nintendo hasn’t explained why, so we likely won’t have answers until the game is released. This has understandably worried some fans. Those hoping for a *Super Mario Galaxy 3* are particularly concerned, as poor sales of these new releases could jeopardize that possibility. However, with the power of nostalgia and the hype surrounding the upcoming movie, these games are expected to be very successful.
