Why The Mandalorian & Grogu Brings Back the Razor Crest (What Happened To the N-1 Starfighter?)

Fans were thrilled to see the Razor Crest return in *The Mandalorian and Grogu*, just five years after its destruction. The ship was instantly popular when it first appeared in Season 1 of the Disney+ series, but the show surprised viewers in Season 2 by destroying it in the episode “Chapter 14: The Tragedy.” Din Djarin later acquired a new, recognizable ship: the Naboo N-1 Starfighter, which fans may remember from *Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace*.

The N-1 Starfighter was a noticeable upgrade in speed and design compared to Mando and Grogu’s previous ship, the Razor Crest, but it doesn’t seem like Mando preferred it. The trailer for *The Mandalorian and Grogu* shows Din Djarin back piloting the Razor Crest – a brand new version of the ship, not the original somehow surviving. This raises the question of why he’s chosen to return to the Razor Crest and leave the faster Starfighter behind.

The Razor Crest’s Return In The Mandalorian & Grogu Makes Sense

The N-1 Starfighter is a beautifully designed ship from the Star Wars prequels, but it’s probably not the best fit for Din Djarin. Even though he’s now working with the New Republic, he’s still fundamentally a bounty hunter, and seems to be taking on similar missions as before – the upcoming show looks a lot like an extended episode, which is perfectly fine. His ship, the Crest, has much more space for passengers and cargo, making it better suited for the kind of work Din does and for longer trips.

It was clear Din Djarin deeply cherished the Razor Crest. He was hesitant to accept the Naboo Starfighter in *The Book of Boba Fett* Episode 5, “The Mandalorian,” repeatedly expressing his desire for a ship that could truly replace his lost one, not just something different. The Razor Crest felt like home to both him and Grogu, and it’s likely this feeling will continue in the upcoming movie, making his eagerness to acquire a new ship completely understandable.

Beyond the story itself, a new Star Wars movie always means new merchandise, like toys and collectibles. A redesigned Razor Crest is a perfect fit for this, and will likely be a key item in the film’s product line. Interestingly, the new ship includes some yellow panels that look similar to those on the N-1 starfighter, hinting that the owner might have used parts from it during the rebuild.
