With Fire Force Ending, We’re Still Waiting for This Anime Remake

Few things are better than getting completely lost in a great fantasy series, but a fantasy action series (often called ‘shōnen’) is even more exciting. There are lots to choose from, and one standout is *Fire Force* by Atsushi Ohkubo. It’s a powerful story, and with the anime ending soon, it got us thinking about another series set in a similar universe: *Soul Eater*. These two shows feel connected – *Soul Eater* paved the way for *Fire Force*, or maybe it’s the other way around! What’s particularly well-known among fans is that *Soul Eater*’s anime significantly differs from its original manga. Many are hoping it will eventually receive a remake that more closely follows the source material, similar to what happened with *Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood*.

Soul Eater follows weapon meisters and their weapon partners as they carry out the orders of Death, a Shinigami. The series is engaging due to its memorable characters, exciting fights, and humor, offering something for all viewers. However, the anime’s ending differs significantly from the manga’s planned conclusion, leaving those who only watched the anime without the full story. Despite the series being finished for some time, fans are still hoping for a remake to properly adapt the manga’s ending.

The World of Soul Eater

The story takes place in a made-up city called Death City, Nevada. Central to the story is the Death Weapon Meister Academy, or DWMA, a school led by Lord Death. Students here train to become either meisters – skilled warriors – or demon weapons. What makes it special is that these demon weapons can actually turn *into* weapons themselves.

Let’s meet the main characters: the students at the DWMA. These include Maka Albarn and Black Star, who are training to become weapon meisters, along with Death the Kid. Each of them has a partner who can transform into a weapon – Soul Eater, Tsubaki Nakatsukasa, Liz, and Patty Thompson. As the story progresses, we meet even more students, which helps to build a richer and more lively world.

Our world faces danger from wicked people and powerful witches. Students aren’t just focused on their studies – which are challenging enough – they’re also training and equipping themselves for an upcoming battle. Of course, they’ll encounter plenty of unexpected problems along the way, but we won’t reveal all the surprises here.

Where the Anime Deviates

It’s not uncommon for an anime series to deviate from its original manga source, especially when the anime production moves ahead of the manga’s release schedule. *Fullmetal Alchemist* is a well-known case of this, and fans were lucky to receive *Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood* as a more faithful adaptation.

The *Soul Eater* anime also lost its way, particularly during the final fight against Asura. The significant changes made to this battle had a ripple effect, impacting both the anime and the original manga. These differences ultimately led to anime viewers experiencing a very different conclusion than manga readers.

The *Soul Eater* anime ended before the manga finished, meaning it leaves out significant parts of the story, including key plot twists and character development. Although the anime perfectly captured the series’ style and the beginning of the story, there’s still a lot more *Soul Eater* could offer.

The Potential for a Return

I’m still holding out hope for a *Soul Eater* remake, even though the original series finished a while ago! And the ending of *Fire Force* just makes me want more from the same creator, honestly. It’s exciting because the final season of *Fire Force* is supposed to hint at how *Soul Eater* and *Fire Force* are connected – like, they take place in the same universe! I’m really hoping this will get people who loved *Fire Force* to check out *Soul Eater* if they haven’t already, which could give the series a big boost. Even if a full *Soul Eater* remake doesn’t happen immediately, there’s talk about potentially adapting the spin-off, *Soul Eater Not*, and that would be amazing too!

For years, fans have been hoping for a remake of *Soul Eater*. While we wish we could confirm those rumors, they mostly seem to come from what people *want* to happen. We understand why the fandom feels this way, and maybe enough discussion will actually make it happen – it’s worked before, so why not for *Soul Eater*?

Sales of *Soul Eater* manga remain strong, and every purchase sends a message to the creators: fans are eager to see the story concluded. Hopefully, continued strong sales will lead to a reboot or continuation of the series that many are hoping for.
