Good news for fans of Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators! The popular crime drama is coming back with new episodes this week, after a three-year break since its fourth season.
We were all starting to worry that the show might be cancelled after such a long break, but I was so relieved to find out Season 4 actually did really well! It turned out to be the BBC’s second most popular daytime show in 2022, which is amazing.
It’s easy to see why the main actors – Jo Joyner, Mark Benton, and Patrick Walshe McBride – are returning for another series of the show, which is filmed in Stratford-upon-Avon.
I’ve been doing a lot of interviews recently, and people always ask me about this show. Honestly, more than any other role I’ve had – even my time on EastEnders – this is what the public is always curious about.
I receive messages almost daily asking about a possible return. I’ve known for a while – I even hinted at it to the press earlier this year – that it was likely happening, and I was really excited to finally share the news.
She expressed her excitement, saying she loves the show for many reasons. Being close to home and working with a wonderful cast, especially the male actors she praised, makes the experience particularly enjoyable for her.

Joyner added that the show has attracted a wonderful fanbase, which is really heartening. It’s reassuring to see that people enjoy something positive and heartwarming, even when the storyline gets a bit darker. She said she’s very pleased with the positive response.
The latest season of Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators begins this week on U&Alibi, with episodes also coming to BBC and iPlayer soon. This charming comedy crime drama follows the team as they tackle new, thrilling mysteries and murders in the historic streets of Stratford-Upon-Avon.
Frank, a retired police officer known for his bad temper, and Lu, a kind and cheerful former hairdresser, had drifted apart. However, their lives are unexpectedly brought back together when they’re forced to collaborate on a new project, with the help of their enthusiastic assistant, Sebastian.
The story follows a newly reunited team brought together for a remote corporate retreat, complete with paintballing. But what starts as a team-building exercise quickly turns into a test of loyalty when a client is unexpectedly electrocuted during the event, and a corporate spy is revealed.
When Frank attends a reunion for his Murder Mystery School, he unexpectedly runs into an old girlfriend. The fun stops, however, when the group realizes they’re trapped in a remote mansion with a murderer among them.
The town of Stratford is thrown into chaos when a director dies at its yearly ‘Horror-upon-Avon’ convention, after apparently being frightened by the monsters he created. As detectives Frank and Lu investigate the death, they unexpectedly find themselves caught up in a real-life horror story.
When Lu comes home from vacation and finds her house has been robbed, her friends Frank, Sebastian, and a tech expert named Spider do everything they can to track down the thief before Lu loses all of her belongings.
